Do you guys reuse rigs more than once or do you chuck them after one trip. Or do you recycle the hardware and rerig it with fresh mono? It doesn't seem to me that one visit to the salt would corrode the metal to the point it was useless. Especially if you washed it off afterwards and and reused it soon, not like a year later. Just wondering.

What rigs are you referring to? For the metal pre-made rigs, they can hold up pretty well. Some do rust if you leave them in a bucket after fishing but if you rinse them off, they should last until they hit that snag monster.

For my high low rigs, I only use mono, hooks, and barrel swivels. I will change the mono if the line looks frayed or weak. Usually a few sharp tugs will determine if the mono is good. The barrel swivel is usually good after every trip and the hooks are the same way. If you are fortunate enough to have them last several trips without losing them, check the hooks to see if they are still sharp, if not, either sharpen them or chuck them.

I resuse terminal tackle all the time. As you mentioned, the biggest thing is to wash the salt off.

I rinse everything thouroughly with fresh water - rods, reels, buckets, sand spikes, the whole sha-bang! (sometimes I even use a little bit of dish detergent in the water).

My reels get a gentle rinse but everything else gets a hard spray from a garden hose.

Then I leave everything out to air dry for a while.

I don't use my rigs more than 3 times. It's personal preferance, but as long as you wash your set up down after everytime you use it, you should be ok.

I tie all my own rigs now and reuse th hard ware. I have not had any problems with anything rusting to th point of not using it except th hooks. Since I don't have a hook sharpner I usally change hooks every coulpe of trips anyway.

How was the fishing back then? Not too much surf fishing, huh? And we thought we had a lot of rain last season!
