Yesterday, while @ Bass Pro Shop, I convinced my wife she needed a 12' OM surf stick. Unfortunately, she couldn't make up her mind on a reel to match up with it. Looking at a Diawa Emcast 5500. Any thoughts? Looking for something with a capacity of approximately 250 yards of 20#.

cool deal!.
key words were convinced and she. congrats on getting you a new rig.
Don't have any experience with the Emcast, but the daiwa's are sweet. Good casting and great drags.

Check out the Avet MXJ. It is one sweeeeeet reel. Compact, casts great when magged, holds a ton of line, capable of 16 lbs. of drag, built like a tank, and a great buy for the money. I have not even touched my magged SL30SHV since I got the Avet. Ask anyone who owns one.

Haven't ruled out an Okuma. In fact, I have a Stratus ST-50 that I couldn't be happier with.

SaltyDog, that one is inbetween the 4500 that I have and the 5500. I believe it holds 230 yards of 20 pound test and as you can see Cabelas is sold out of em.
Check out the Okuma CD-65 Coronado it holds 210yd of #20. Or the CD-90 holds 500yd of #20(new spool) or 390yd #20 (older spool). Ijust realized they had a newer spool I still have the 390yd spool. Reels work great I own 2 CD90 and have fished then hard at AI with out any problems. I also have an Okuma epixor EB 65 that is super smooth and holds 260yds of #20(and comes with an extra spool). They all are live liners/bait feeders.
Here is a link to all the Okuma spinning reels (http://www.okumafishing.com/products/spinning.htm)
