Getting ready to do some tailgating, meeting at 4, yeah, I know, Baltimore has a "BAD" name in the NFL, and there will be the comments about murderer and drug dude, but you know what, win or lose, a Monday Noght Football game, live and in person, well it's a treat. Win, I am happy, lose, I am even more mad at Washington and Cincinnatti. That being said, I am hoping Priest Holmes has a "decent" game, just not great. Sure there will be more than me cheering when he is announced over the speakers.

Did you look at the time of possetion and the ## of plays for each team? No wonder the ravens D wasn't looking stellar. They were on the field for most of the game. Dissapointing to watch. Hopefully this game was a wake up call and the ravens will stomp the skins on Sunday.

I just love to see Ray Lewis lose. I get tired of hearing his mouth. His pre game dance was not worth jack shiite again last night. Ray Lewis should have been in prison. I guess his buddy Jamaal will be able to fill him in on what he is missing. :eek:

Why is the NFL allowed to suspend Jamal for something he did before he entered the NFL? I am sure its just a PR manuver by the NFL, but seems a little sketchy.

Baltimore Ravens running back Jamal Lewis, facing a federal indictment on drug conspiracy charges, has agreed to accept a plea bargain and will serve jail time after the NFL season, the New York Times reports.

Lewis will appear on Thursday in U.S. District Court in Atlanta. He is expected to agree to a six-month sentence – four months of confinement, two months in a halfway house – and approximately 500 hours of community service, the person said.

Lewis is accused of conspiring to possess with intent to distribute 5 kilograms of cocaine and using a cell phone in the commission of a drug crime. Lewis could be suspended by the NFL, even though the charges stem from an FBI investigation in the summer of 2000, just before his rookie season.

Why is the NFL allowed to suspend Jamal for something he did before he entered the NFL? I am sure its just a PR manuver by the NFL, but seems a little sketchy.

OldBay, He could not be punished in
2000 because the court had not made a
judgement yet (by anybody). Well now the court has made a decision and guess what?
He just happens to be employed by the NFL
at this time and they have a responsibility to
take action now that the court case is
done and a decision rendered. He is still
getting "star" treatment by being able to
serve his time when it is convenient for him.
Must be nice. I also think that most
employers might be inclined to take some
type of administrative action (firing!)
on an employee convicted of similiar
charges even if they actually commited
the act a few years before their date

If he had gone to trial and served his time before entering the NFL, would the NFL have let him play?

Is serving time in the summer interfering with the performance of his duties at work?

I am no fan of his nor "Ray - Rays" as a matter of fact I think it 's a crime that ESPN hired Michael Irvin..boy Disney's personnel office must be snorting the same crap that he does. interfere with your work...I am sure that

I am saying that the NFL is not the party that should be sanctioning him at all. If he was selling drugs to NFL players then yes. The act didn't happen while he was an NFL employee.

I know people who have negotiated deals where they can serve time on weekends, so they dont have to miss work. Why is this any different?

Would I want my kid to look up to a football player? Nope.

Do you really think Jamal is worried about his cell mate?

If they find out that Deon stole a car when he was 18, take him to court now and find him guilty, would the NFL take it upon themselves to bench him.

Maybe Rickey Williams could sub for Jamal while he is suspended.

You're trying to pull me into that whole "Athletes as role models" discussion. Thats a whole 'nother topic. Or are you saying that Jamal's suspension is being imposed so that parents know that they should not encourage their kids to look up to Jamal, and that kids know Drugs are bad and convictions make you miss work?

Don't know about anyone else, but if I was facing (and being the scaredy cat I am) I'd negotiate a plea agreement, for the best for me, and if the prosecuters say deal, tells me a weak case at best, but, I am branded for life? So be it.

Life is what it is, and speaking as a white American, it is amazinf how Enrons white CEO did nothing wrong, Martha Stewart, white female, did nothing wrong, forget the idiot from Rite Aid and his son, did nothing wrong, but, OJ (?), Ray Lewis (plead to a lesser and settled ?), J Lewis, plea bargain. Why is it the "white people have the advantage of doubt wwhen a plea bargain comes around, and therefore, it is in thier "best" interest to serve minimal time, but, a black dude gets hyped on something, in Atlanta, no less, twice, and they are so bad?

I hate the blacks claiming injustice because of color (and no harm intended, but Civil Liberties claim that computers scare "colored folk"), just as much as I hate the whites saying guilty, just because......

I don't have the answers., but once heck one of of white football player with Oakland succumond to steroids I believe, and if a white one does the crime, it doesn't make it a "white collered crime", it's all the same and black or white, we would all negotiate what is best for us.

We have to get our priorities straight I do admit, but just because it may be an African American facing something in Atlanta, and getting off "easier", doesn't make them guilty, any more the a White prima donna, named Martha, getting off on a plea agreement makes her not guilty, life isn't always fair, but thank God I live where I do.

If I had my choice, knowing I was innoccent, but seeing the truth, I probably would do the same, what's best for me.

with the crime, everybody said he should
not be punished because he is innocent until
proven guilty. That is fine. I agree with
that. Now that he has been convicted
of a crime there are only two facts that
matter.

#1 He was/is convicted of a crime.
#2 He was/is an employee of the NFL
while he was convicted of a crime.

Like I said before this is not an NFL
thing....Go to ANY employer and say
"I was just convicted of being a
drug dealer BUT it happened before I
started working here...were good right?"

Surely it is not because of his ethnicity, right? It seems that there are many different schools of thought concerning crime and punishment, hiowever it seems that it is not fair and equal. Sometimes it seems that folks celebrate a guilty man getting off just because so many innocent , before him, were convicted. Then there a re the cases where someone is guilty and they receive a slap because of some personal affiliation. I could mention OJ, Martha, courtney Love, or the crazed steroid user out off LA.......BUt I won't.......
