I was just doing some thinking today after reading the sad news about Jake. When I first found the site, it just read it for the fishing info. After a while I found myself visiting the site on a daily basis. Now I find myself visiting this site everytime I get on the computer. I don't even come on this site just for fishing anymore. I usually come here to see how everyone is doing. Sure I read the reports and anything else that peeks my interest but I just like coming here now to shoot the breeze. I am glad to be a part of this community and hope that one day to be able to fish with you guys again. I have a little free time on my hands right now but do not plan on fishing anytime soon in the near future. I am curious to see why other members come here. Do you just come for the info, or do you come here to hang out?

Of course the reports, and to pick on my friend FirstMateFluff :D

I like to hear what everyones using for tackle and how they present it.

I wish the boating forum was more active, as I'm getting into a boat some time this yr.

First found the site and was so excited to discover there was actually a place where area anglers reported actual local fish facts. So......I nudged my way in.

Second....realized there was a lot of down to earth folks here....so before I knew it...I was letting the real me come out. ;) Being homebound a lot made coming to the site to ask questions, chit chat, and in general keep a smile on my face....one of the high points in my day.

Third....I settled in. Figured I could offer some objective views of my own......pre BS Board.

Fourth.....rode the waves after I was put on "u are peeing us off Thrifty" notice....or was I under another name at that time ;) Wasn't phased by this. Just had developed a habit, a dependence, a need to keep on top of local fishing stuff.

So.....now I've realized just how important it is to be a part of this site. Being the recipient of great info given by many.....anticipating the many great changes madeand to be made by a select one....and feeling free to be able to throw a bit of my personality into the mix with the personalities of members make up the "why" in "why I come to this site".

Oh yeah....last but not least.......Getting great answers to some of the spur of the moment questions I sometimes ask.

Guess one could say I'm here for everything the site has to offer. :)

I first found this site when I wanted to learn more about surf fishing in other area since I now go to Virgina Beach and Maryland often and as it was stated by others there are real good people on this site I can honestly say being a member of multiple site the people hear are GREAT people and whether you have met them, fished with them, or just chat with you have friends for life. I find that when I don't visit this site I have missed out on something and this site has become a part of my day to day doings

which rod and reels to use, rigs to use, what's a good line to use, what weight to use; I was a $#$ newbie and you know what, all my stupid question were answered with no disrespect toward them or me.

Now I come here to talk, see's who's doing what and where the fish are biting. The first P&S Clean Up I attended was the PLO one last fall; seeing and meeting many of the regulars was great.

I only wish I spent more time here on weekends, but at least I have something to look forward to on Monday's.

Sand Flea has quite the following here.

Me, found the site almost by accident, but at first glance wasn't really what I was expecting. Then, met up with some, attending the cleanups, and it wasn't all about fishing, but comradere(?). Me, as all, or at least most, know have my favorite fishing spot at AI, and didn't come across many with that place's passion as myself. Now, seems more are appreciating that place (for better or worse, but it AIn't mine, and others should be able to partake in the pleasures the place has to offer), and have met many whom I consider friends, so for me, first, it's family, a genuine feeling for the people here, those I have met, yet more importantly, those who I will someday meet and fish with, second, passing on what little knowledge I have, thus when it's my turn to fish the "Big Pond", I can go feeling I contributed something to someone (not just fishing wise, but maybe a smile to the face, something to ponder, or just someone who may even think "what an a$$hole", (I don't really care, talk to my wife, I am used to that last one), as someone did to me, and thus carry on the joys of fishing (the surf especially) and the importance of friends. Friends, you can never have enough, and thanks to this place I have many, but, unfortunately, most I have yet to meet.

Have Jeep will travel :D

I found this place doing a Google search for "surf fishing"+"Virginia Beach".

A thread popped up from one of the forums and that is how I found P&S.

I had been here from Texas only about 1 1/2 months and had only succeded in finding Lynnhaven pier and had dumped all my lite tackle in Texas, so I had to even RENT one of those beat up pier rods they have.

I was a happy spot fisherman :) and was catching crabs. (not from Al, not at that time..)

Then I saw someone with a big Striper and that was that ... had to have one.

I knew NOTHING about surf fishing, yet because of P&S, my learning curve was made much shorter.

I found out WHERE to fish, WHEN to fish, WHAT to fish with, and HOW to fish around here.

Then I met Al...... ;)

After I put the Spade charter together with Sally T, I was able to meet many of the people that have become my friends.

Since then I keep meeting more P&S members nearly everytime I go.

Gotta get to know the NC crowd better now.. I likes dat place fo fishin! :)

Great job, Flea! Thanks for this Electronic Void we call P&S!

I drew the line when Bob asked me to shave his back :D :D  I didn't care what vintage that vodka was.....I'll keep w/ the B/L's

Love this sight, where else can you meet and fish with people, and later call those people your friends?

Except for Al and his vodka back-shaving parties...

I started here back in May at the recommendation of a friend at work that goes by the handle "Fishin'". He doesn't post much anymore but still does a fair amount of lurkin. I've fished a lot more this year than usual because of what I've learned here.

The site was exactly what I was looking for, and more. The information exchange on techniques, locations and such is valuable, but IMHO, the camaraderie is much more valuable. I've met some good folks on here that I consider almost family now, and hope to meet and fish with more of you in the future.

Now, Al, put the razor down...

I enjoy the friendship of the people here. If I have a question or comment I can post it without any problem.....for the most part. I have never been to the OBX, but hearing about on the boards here makes me want to come down and see what I am missing.

I come here because I love learning new things.

Five years ago I set a little board up because I got sick and tired of having to call tackle shops for fishing reports and only saw boating boards out there. It sort of grew from there.

I am continually humbled not only by what I've learned here but by what it means to people who hang out here.

I hope I can do right by you folks.

Sorry to say....not many chicks here....alst I've noticed is a clacking ol hen :( and a bunch of bird keepers....aka...husbands leashed to chicken coops.

Might have better luck on a hunting board. :D

1. I was born a regular guy bank/pier fishing at Ramona's at Miller's Island. Over the years I moved to other bay and inland banks but the Bay is still my home.

2. Much of the bay and coastal fishing is "boat oriented". After many years I finally got a nice jon boat for bay fishing but I still find myself on the bank many times. It was a revelation to find a Board for the forgotten majority of anglers...the down-to-earth bank/pier/shore/surf angler scene. Now I'm covered on both accounts...and my boat sojourns almost count for bank angling the way I go about it.

3. Some other bank-fishing boards I've frequented were full of attitude and posers. Don't need that sh*t. There is a great sense of community here on P&S...everyone helping out with reports and tips...and keeping current of pressing issues that affect the bank angler.

I have been boating and fishing for a long time. Prior to retirement and a second "part-time" career, I use to fish the weekends from my boat or a buddys and had a pretty good time. My Dad had been a jetty and surf fisherman of modest frequency and I still have one of his old rods. Early this past Spring, my wife suggested that I try going to the beach and fish. About a 15 minute ride. Oh, what the heck give it a try.

I can say this without reservation. Both here and on the beach I have met the nicest, friendlyest and most helpful people in almost 50 years of fishing. Never once on the beach has anyone been anything less that 100% helpful and provided advice, techniques and encouragement to me, a fellow fisherman. Try that out on the boat. Curtesy out on the boat is something that I last saw in the early 60s near Barnegat Light, NJ, my old fishing grounds. Now? There is very little. Here on the Forum there is a wealth of information by many, many people all willing to share. It is terrific. I appreciate the forum, I appreciate the members. Regards.
