As we approach the New Year, I was thinking back on 04 and trying to decide my most memorable catch.

I guess the "classiest" catch would have to be my 40"+ Snook, in the surf.

......but without a doubt the most exciting catch was a 20+lb Bonita which took a live "Greenie" (Threadfin Herring) being freelined from the beach. That sucker almost spooled me three times and swept up and down the beach twice, sending my buddies scurrying to clear lines. It was great. :D

BTW both were released to fight another day. :)

How about your most memorable 04 catch??

Fish On! and Happy New Year,
Jim

I am in the same boat as HighCap here for myself....

Red drum 32" not big, but my first year catching them! :D

As a witness...

DB77's 5 1/2 foot Sandtiger Shark that almost took my fingers off with NS4D's fingers in the surf trying to grab the shock thinking it was a Bull Red!

Between the Stripers at Matapeake, the Black Drum at AI and the Croaker at PLO. Oh and lets not forget that great Matapeake Tog run. LOL

For the most part the summer was fair until my little health problems happened.

By far the most memorable catch was the fish that saved the day on my and Shaggys May AI trip. We fish hard all night and the next day, with nothing but Skate and doggies to show for it. We had decided to pack it in at 4pm that afternoon and head for the house. At about 2:30pm we went to look for one last hole to fish before we booked. We got set on a spot about 20 mins later and our lines in the water by 3pm.

As we packed our things to leave one of my rods went down. The fish made five runs before I could turn his head for the trip to the beach. As I fought the fish we saw it roll off a wave with the sun as a backdrop and thought it was a big shark. Much to both our surprise when it slid up in the wash it was a BIG @SSED STRIPER.

It was the fish that saved the trip! :D 44.5 inchs and 18 hours later when I got it weighted it was 39lbs 2ozs. I'm sure if we had a scale on the beach it would have went well over 40lbs.

May we all have a great new year with many more big fish to be caught by all! ;)....Tightlines

That 6.5lbs spades was one powerful fish to fight on my light tackle. By far the hardest fish that I ever fought against. It took me from the front to the back of the boat.

It has to be during the bluefish contest when I lost my buddy rod over the side of the boat in 25 feet of water and my buddy Steve was able to snag the Rod back just before we left the spot.

I was thinking about my catch.....If I was going to choose the biggest fish caught, the most beautifull, largest number caught, etc.....

I just cant choose one.... But I'll choose a specie for 2004...... Grey Sea Bass

most memorable moments would have to be fishing 'the wall' this summer. i put in alot of time down there, and the majority of that time i was getting skunked...but it paid off. managed some nice flounder (biggest being 23"), caught a few striper blitzes as early as august (all cnr'd) managed a 24" there a day after the season opened, and hell i even had fun catching spot down there during the run. my lady caught her first fish down there actually (11" spot...just shy of the weight citation) we caught pompano for the first time at VB pier this year too...

this year was a good year for me, i've learned a life times worth of information (mostly thanks to this site...thanks flea) and met alot of good people.

there was a morning sunrise in March. I was on a dock that reached out 185' into the James River in Charles City. The river is about a half mile wide there. There wasn't a sole in sight, just me and the eagles. It was cold, I was sipping my coffee. I had 5 rods out and 3 were bouncing....

there was that morning at the inlet behind Bodie Island Lighthouse, again at sunrise when the tropical weather brought a shower that chased everyone away. I hunkered down beneath the hull of a trailered boat and met a stranger who became a friend and when the rain passed we had the inlet to ourselves.

There was that day I took my wife to ramp 30 and told her...this is your day, and she caught Blue fish all day long until her arms were sore.

There was the Spade fishing trip with my friends from this board. Afterwards some of us went to Sandbridge only to be chased off by a thunderstorm. Leaving there we went to the wall.

then there was that Striper Charter that turned into a most profitable Tog trip where I met some more friends from this board.

maybe it was a couple of weeks ago...6 stripers,34,36.5,38,38,40 and 41 all caught under a meteor shower.....................................

Most memorable....hmmm.....tough call..

I have some really nice catches this year. New PB in multiple species and also caught several species that I have never caught before. I guess one of the best is the 38 inch striper at the Sandy Point clean-up because it was a slow day and I was lucky enough to catch it surrounded by some of the best anglers this board has to offer.

The other is the 29 inch red during the drum run at Sandbridge. It took me 3 days to pull out a decent sized red but it sure felt nice to see that fish.
