What do you guys think about this possible outfit combo. It is on the "less expensive" side, but I still don't want to miss a much better outfit for a few dollars more. I would use this outfit for my usual beach walking outings, trying to get out there a little further than my Tica 8' & Okuma Coronado CD50. I would spool the Emcast with between 15-20lb powr pro.
Thanks for your input and advice.

I don't know about the reel or the combination of the two, but you'll like that 10'6" Tica. I have one and it's my best versitile rod. It's god a good mix of backbone, flex, and length for casting 8 and bait, but yet it's still good to cast 4oz jig head lures for stripers. That's good rod you got there in my opinion. Now...I wouldn't get the biggest of spinning reels on that rod. I have a a Shimano Speros 14000 that I use on it for the 8 and bait, but I use a smaller reel for casting lures. I'd even go smaller reel for the 8 and bait.
I have that Daiwa reel attached to a 12" Tica surf rod from the same series and consider it a practical use of money well spent. The Tica products are currently rated among the best in an Orange to Orange comparision. For a few dollars more you might also look at this rod and reel match, a 12' Tsunami TSTSC 1202XH Lure casting weight range of 6-10oz's, add to that a Daiwa Laguna 5000 series reel. I keep 20 lb Suffix's on that combo now but have used Power Pro. It's got Plenty of quality and power and a balanced combo for surf fishing. It's A beautiful outfit too! The same rod is avalible in a 10'6 " version and would surfice as well. For off the shelf equipment either brand offers the semi serious to avid angler a bargin. Custom rod bags are avalible for either brand and are usually offered free with the deal from tackle suppliers or tackleshops to sweeten the Pie. General Price range at retail from either brand rod 10-12 fters is $80.00 - $115.00 Tica's, and $ 90.00- $130.00 Tsunami. The Dawia reels about half of that, the Laguna series reels have a long stroke spool shaft perfect for the surf.
I have a regal 4000 on my 10'6" Tica and it casts 20 stealth like a dream!!!!!! Man does it zip- the small diameter spool really mathes the first guide well!

JMO but I use the Diawa Capricorn 3500 on my 10'6" Tica. 30 lbs PP. The Emcast 5000 would be alot of reel to walk around with :)

Well, I stumbled upon a reel deal at Sports Authority today, so I am half way there. They were having a 25% off sale. I found a Daiwa Tournament 3500SS II on clearance for $59 minus 25% final price $44. :) Sadly, they only had one :(
Now, I will try and score the rod.
I did put the Daiwa on a 7'Heavy action Redbone I have and tossed a 1 1/2 oz Hopkins a long way. ;) , What a deal.
Thanks again for all the input and advice to an old guy that is a bit of a novice.
