Looks like one more member and Flea has 2,500 interested parties out there. Now granted some members may have signed up and never come back, and some (supporters) have passed away. Just curious though, out of that almost 2,500, how many may have signed up for supporter status. I don't know what a "good" percentage may be in these boards, so was just wondering, how many of us are the "truly" dedicated and devoted? And, don't mean any harm or bad thoughts pointed at members, just seems most of the guys and gals here I fish with are supporters, that's all.

... and a few more posts and we hit 100,000. Flea, are all of those still online? That could take a while for a new member to wade thru.

I used this board for a long time and was just too lazy to sign up. Considering the money I waste every single day, I spent a few bucks wisely for a change and signed up through " paypal".

I must admit............OLE " CDOG" got me riled up just about enough to were I became a supporter. ;)

I also understand that there are alot of younger folks on here that can't just toss in 20-30 bucks as easily as you or I. Some adults might be on hard times also and need the money for thier families.

Im not trying to be a "BILLBOARD" for Flea, but I fully understand the cost for bandwidth and and money for server upkeep. Lets all try and help were we can.

Be safe everyone

I'm on a huge catfishing board with 9,000+ registered users (not all necessarily active) and as I can tell the number of supporters is around maybe 50-100 max.

On a huge worldwide amateur astronomy equipment (telescopes and stuff...including high end gear ~$30,000 and many high-end users, high rollers and semi professionals) classified site plus articles/forum supporter roster is maybe a 100-200 and the site is struggling $$ to cover costs.

I won't make judgements for those that do not contribute...my support over the years varies based on personal expenses and how "well off" I feel, personal activity and connection to the group and its goals. Some years I'm "on", sometimes "off". As a whole I think the internet is viewed, with the exception of porn, as a free resource. In that matter, there are some needs for people that don't have enough are always willing to pay for. But teach a man to fish and he will be fed for a lifetime...if you know what I mean :D :D

Thank You...
And glad you brought that up, with some of the threads here, and I'm sure there are others with problems as well, gets to the point at times (at least with myself) that I rarely post anymore because I'm not a supporter. But having a terminal illness, haven't worked in 2 years,
spend most of my days either sick, going to Doctors (have no insurance either), or filling out paperwork and on the phone, and as of yet, have not received any government help, six or seven prescription drugs a month...

Sorry, but no, don't have the money to add to the site. I joined this site to talk fishing, and hoping to help others that need help, as I've been a die-hard fisherman in Va. all my life, with the exception of 5 years in Florida. I’m sure you've heard the saying "10% of the fishermen, catch 90% of the fish" :) Well I managed, with hard work, to be in that 10% group, and thought my trade off was trading my knowledge for a little time of fishing talk as my support for the site. Just because I can't fish anymore, either from being sick or lack of funds, I still like to be involved with it, as well as make new friends

Just wanted to say "Thanks"! It's the first time I can remember of anyone posting about that side of the coin.

It's just very un-nerving to read some of the threads, and feel like your some kind of “tightwad” for not being a supporter.

I know nothing about running a site like this, but the other site I frequent probably has around 9000 members, and I know quit a few of you from that site. Just curious how a site like that, has never mentioned paying to be on the site, and I know you can't do but so well selling a little tackle, can pay for having a site that large??? They have a few more ads than here, but not many... just curiosity. Was thinking about learning more about having a site to generate $$$ for myself, but from the sound of it, must be a lot more to than I thought :(

For the guys I know from elsewhere, and some of you have different usernames here, Thanks for your help, most defiantly helped me through some tough times!

Just venting a little, have had about 5 hours sleep in the past 4 nights

SF, great site, wish I could help as well, just ain't in my budget right now. If I'm ever able to, the bucks will be coming your way to help with the site :)

All you P&S fishermen (and ladies), love reading your post, and seeing the yearly changes in fishing patterns comparing them to my log books.

Don't catch 'em all, save a few for me just in case ;)

I have to fish on the cheap myself "junk" but when i thought about how much i had saved, buying equipment, fixing rods & reels & locations to fish it much more than the price to be a supporter. That made it much easier to pony up. Not trying to put a trip on anybody just my way.

Since I started this thread, just thought I'd bring up a couple of things. One, I am not trying to knock registered users at all, because I understand the circumstances some may be in. Not wanting to make this a supported/ registered user fight either. Mostly it was my curiosity as to what percentage of people who register for a site like this are users and if anybody might know what an average (if there really is one) might be. Also, like I stated, most of the people I end up fishing with are supporters, and to be honest, it would be nice to meet more of the prople here, including the registered users. Support does come from many directions, those that can afford to become supporters, I feel if they gain something here, should, those whos situations don't allow though, also contribute, by posting.

That said, it would be nice to see some more registered user become involved in some of our outings (Maryland/Delaware has quite a few), Wilber has his KH annual thing, I know, I think it was Emanuel down in SC/GA board held one, and maybe others have. Now, finances may play apart in that too, travel and the like, but bait and food are usually in generous supply at our outings, and I am sure sharing could be an extension of this family we have.

Like I said, I wasn't trying to knock the registered user, just seems like more could get involved in some of the event. I may be wrong, and if I am would freely admit it.

I repeat, this was not intended to offend any registered user, and if it came off that way, it was not intentional, and I apologize.

Wrong!!! You took my line...nope, the apologize's on me  Man, haven't done that in years... Shag, and everyone else, I'm really sorry... just stressing man, just stressing, and it just caught up with me this morning. The holidays, the doctors, the waiting on hold most of the day, paperwork and forms stacked everywhere, but what really $ucks, I haven't wet a line in the salt now for 2years 4months, never thought I could go that long  Rent a house with my sweetie that was on a small lake until the really bad rains we got in the fall, when the dam broke :( The county says it will be 10 years before they can make the repairs, there go my Winter & Spring Crappie

Been bugging me all day, and came back to the 'puter hoping no one had replied to my post and delete it, well we see how that went, everyone that posted had something good to say. OK now I get to feel worse, that's alright, I deserve it... put my backside up in the air for the world to see, so the post stays, I'll just have to get over it.

Two things shaggy, good question on the % of suporters, I'd be curious as well, and do you really have a Jeep ;)

Thanks for the kind words fellows, hope I get some sleep tonight, I'm sure it would do me a world of good :)

Two things - Digger hinted that you had a computer problem. I have LOTS of parts, so don't be shy cause I'm not using them.

Also .. I do the Health Biz (Durable Medical Equipment) for a living and fight with Medicare, Medicaid, and other Private Insurance Cos every day.

If you need to ask a question to help with your benefits, PM me. I might be able to help.

wizardude, it's all good, just glad my post (or at least it now seems) wasn't one of my infamous open mouth insert one or both feet things, because, well it wasn't meant to be a negative toward anyone, more of a curiosity thing.

Next, hopefully recovery on what ails you is on it's way, and you'll be able to spend at least some of the Spring wetting a line.

Wes, no need to apologize, reminds a jerk like me that everything is not black and white(choose to support or choose not to support) and I should think before I speak.

Hope things get better for you soon. Take care.

Not what I expected for for having a bad day!

Since it's his site, I'm guessing Sand Flea is the one responsible. Thanks Flea, much appreciated! :)

Digger, what's sound, haven't had that for I don't know how long, when Sound Blaster fried, and crashed the entire system causing me to have to do a full format/losing everything  Believe it was a hard drive we were talking about, which was my last hardware problem. Found a 15 GB HD that matches the wire hook ups, but haven't tried switching it out yet, trying to find a way to get info off of this one first, since my CD writer won't write. Thought it was a software problem, found out it wasn't after I found the right software for it.

High Cap, probably would have some questions if I ever get approved for anything, had a points problem (1) with SS, so having to go the another route, should hear anytime, working on other paperwork now, Thanks...
