Any body out there who has an old wore out 650 or still replacing your shim/spacer in your sideplates. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the bearings for the 6500B available from Shimano will directly rplace the Spacer/shim in the Side plates of the 650. Also it will directly replace the original top bearing . The Main Gear which in the 650s would wear giving you sideplay in the handle is also directly replaceable with the 6500B's main gear.

This was discovered totally by accident when I accidentally put the main gear in one of my 650's ...hmmmm. I examined the bearings from Shimano for the 6500B and put it in the 650 side plate. It fit perfect. Needlesss to say my 6500B's bearings did not get replaced that day. So, I went one step further broke the 650 reel all the way down and sure enough the Top worm gear bearing was also the same bearing. So, I replaced that bearing also. My old 650 is now as smooth as my 6500Bs.

I swear by my 650's and they predate 1986. Now they have a new life. ALso, the new 6500B's Spools will preplace the old 650 Spools. The 6500Bs Spare spools(got extra spool with purchase) have the water proof drag systems, which are also smooth as glass. My 650's handles were in pretty deteriorated condition so, replaced both of them also.

I just revitalized 2 of my old 650's with the parts for the 6500B. I am pleased to find the 650s are smooth as glass on the retrieve and now have a greatly improved drag system! :D ;)
