I saw this word being cast around on another thread . . .
Clique, and I don't mean the type you find on your reel. Is there a place for them in a fishing forum, or do you feel they detract from what fishing (and the word: forum) are all about?

I don't think we have those present here.
Yes, we do have groups of friends that fish together and talk amongst themselves, but I don't see them as cliques.
Case in point..
I moved to VA Beach in Aug of 2003. I knew no one, yet I became active on the forum and soon found that I was invited to fish and really made some friends I think a lot of.
Will they tell me where the fish are if I come back to VA Beach for a visit... Damn straight they will... but they may not walk me to the honey hole unless they come with me...
Will they tell someone they don't know? Likely not, but most will point you in the right direction.
To me, a clique excludes everyone but the blessed few, and I just don't see that here.
If that was the case, I would never have made friends with members here, because I would not have been allowed in the clique.
Face it... those that actively seek comrades find them. Those that sit on the periphery and just look at what is going on, see cliques.
Its simply a matter of stepping up and getting to know people.

I think that there are so many different personalities and level of ability that certain folks tend to migrate towards each other. Granted some are leaders and others are followers, but cliques are inevitable. some people just get along better with some people. Heck I would rather go fishing and spend 8 hours on the pier chatting it up with person x instead of person y.
It is fun to fish, but if person y is going to make my day miserable, then screw it.
Granted I would share information with anyone and help out where ever I could. But I may be a little more helpful to some than others.

But seriously, fishing reports will be shared among all for casual fishing but if it is something that I view as special than I will prolly put it on the supporters board to keep it away from the lurkers. Not you OBX Nomad, the unregistered "I wanna get what I can without giving anything in return" lurkers that can see everything you see. And I have to say that if a friend either from the board or the outside world turns me onto a spot or fish I will not post a report anywhere because then I would be breaking that persons trust.

You know ive fish with a few of these guys and mostly by just being there at the same time and Its always been a great experiance. Lots of great people and just good ole know how.

but i think jeffs right on point pretty much... although bob has a point too. there are groups that will migrate to fish with eachother, the two things that make this happen are personality and as jeff stated fishing ability. for the obvious reasons, but i do agree with bob, do i see or think that anyone/groups believe themselves so much better to not let people fish with them? i have had to pleasure of not running into them. i am part of BAC, aka AC, but has anyone noticed that the asian connexXxion always has like 6 "token white boys" wherever they fish? including my old roomate?
zigh and clay decide to go trout fishing.... i pm zigh and say... hi, im neil, i'd like to formally invite myself to fish you and clay tomorrow... zigh invites and shows me a great time, zigh wants to fish the shad stuff on friday more than welcome...
newsjeff is only partly asian(cause he breaks reels like only asians can) and we've made efforts to try and fish together, i've met all kindsa people at lesner, i fish with all kinda people on the piers... but on this board, im part of the va AC..... you know? the board is the board, but ive never met anyone here who wasnt happy to meet another person to fish with.... unless ya smell like teo, then your just stuck with him cause you feel bad about telling him you dont like him.... it may look like a clique, and partly it is, but then again alot of people read these boards and dont post at all, so what can i do to get these people to post more and invite me to go out with them? or me to invite them? i dont know, but if people dont post, we'll never know. it jsut takes time for people to get comfortable with this whole board thing... people here are good peoples, some drink better than they fish...well most of us drink better than we fish... well agian, teo cant drink or fish but its okay cause STILL CAST FURTHER than him or AL....
