the bail arm on my 6500SS sits too low, the roller guide is not straight and the line gets pinched between the roller and the frame and eats up the line when i'm retrieving. how do i get the bail arm to sit flush, so the roller guide is straight? any help would be appreciated.

screw loose?...spring bad?...there should be a spacer behind the screw/bail...i would have to see it otherwise...

are there any reputible shops around here that do reel maintance and repair? i took the bail apart and i can't think of anything than the spring might be bent or is becoming flimsy. i'd like to atleast get my moneys worth out of this reel before i dump it.

if you're reffering to the large screw on the outside of the bail, i don't believe there is any washer. i'll have to go over the parts list later when i get the chance. i've had all sorts of trouble with the bail on this reel... think it's about time i shoot a letter to penn and get this thing right. thanks for the help, the only thing i could figure was wrong was maybe the spring got bent or soft.

Mail the whole dam thing back to Penn and tell them all the problems you have had and ask them to fix it.
Then never buy a new penn again. Their product is just not sexy any more. I use Penn reels but the old stuff like the 750SS, Jigmasters and Squidders. You can find some good stuff one ebay.

i love all my other penns, never had a problem with any of my conventionals... i even like the captiva. it's just i've had more than enough problems with this thing, and after seeing the 'made in china' sticker on the back of the bail arm i have to believe penn is goin' down the tubes.i'm definitely crossing over to shimano and daiwa. i'll take it up to PA distributors next week and get it right.

I love all of my ss reels, but I will never buy another ss agian unless it is made in america. This is one of the main reasons I have penn reels, they are American, but if they push there production over to china I will buy a Jap reel instead of a China one. Everyone that loves penns should write letters to penn complaining about the overseas production, I have allready sent a couple so I don't think they will pay attention to me anymore

could be several things wrong if you send it to penn you will spend about half the cost of a new reel they are very expensive at their shop.you can ups it to tochterman's in baltimore and i can take care of ot for you.COG (clean oil & grease) will cost you $12.00 parts should be less than $5.00 plus $5.00 to ups back to you. i go over every reel with a fine tooth comb totally disassemble degrease in aparts washer and reassemble. penn will charge you $30.00 just to COG.
