there's a thread on the virginia board by Jake Ace which has a good deal of talk about cleaning up the beaches/piers when fishing.
this struck a chord with me as i was out on my boat this weekend catching a few and lost a bunch of jigs to the logs. one time after tying on again i almost tossed the tag into the water after i bit it off. i caught myself and though "am i too lazy to care about this bit of pollution, open your pocket and put it in there dumba$$."
part of the price that i pay to catch fish is to help conserve the fish and their surroundings. i have picked up 40 year old rusty cans off of islands in the middle of a huge lake in canada, so why would i even think about tossing some mono into my local river?
then along comes Jake's post.....so here goes:
i would ask each of you to join me in making a personal committment to clean up each area where you fish this year ( i know many of you already do this). pick up a little or a lot, every bit will help. just commit to bringing home (or properly disposing of) an amount of trash that will make a difference in the expierience of the next guy (or gal, or kid) to come along. teach your friends and children to do the same.
I WILL.
I am going to recycle some of those wal-mart bags by filling one with trash each time out, i just went and put some in my tackle bag.
have a great fishing season all, hope to see you out there this year,
jerry
