I got the chance to use the new Breakaway Slideaway clips from the beach Tuesday.
Guess what?
They're not worth chit from the sand.
I'm sure they'd work pretty well from the pier, but I just couldn't work the clip down the main line more than 20 yards off the beach.
Once my line leved out, the clip stopped it's progress.
Here's a quote from the Breakaway web site:
The clip will slide by itself if working from an elevated platform. If you are working from water level the technique used will be to shake the rod tip backwards and forwards, just enough to make the clip walk away from you. What happens is that the clip lock against itself, then as the weight comes off the clip it goes to the slide position, this makes the clip walk, and can be used to send baits against the current.
Believe me, I shook my rod like John Holmes. No luck.
So, IMHO, don't bother with them from the surf.
