:D :D :D :D
I need another rod and reel like I need a hole in the head...This'll make about 75 in the garage....BUT I just secured an almost perfect Penn #9 on E-bay......Now to find a nice old rod to put it on.....
Anyone else like using the "old stuff"? I have a couple of real nice Mitchell 302's that always draw a lot of looks and questions. It's just cool to me to fish with stuff that's as old or older than I am (36) once in a while...

Bought it brand new in 1986 and still chugging to this day...solid brass gears and has never let me down...Got a couple of squidders and HS Jigmasters that I keep as backups...
Old diehard reel has to be my ABU 10000CL reel that is older than dirt....still works great on my surf rod...and don't get me started on my Mitchell 300 collection...

I've been restoring spring steel and split cane rods, and similar vintage reels, for about 30 years.
Every once in a while, I take one down off the wall and tie on a "Daredevil" or "Crazycrawler" and show my buddies why I laugh at all their "High Tech" tackle.
My Grandads favorite "Silaflex" rod and Penn 700 "Spinfisher" has a place of honor on my office wall, along with my Dads "Browning Silaflex" and "Mitchell 300".
Being a lefty, I also display a few of my own "retired" outfits, sporting Mitchell 301's, 303's, 403's and the only Penn 705 Spinfisher I've ever seen.
I love all the old tackle, for it's pragmatic elegance, and especially for the visions it induces.
