Get the Daiwa Emblem Pro. I hear good things about that reel. I used to have the Emblem XT, awesome reel. There was a picture of a guy down in Fl pulled a nice Tarpon on the Emblem XT. If he can bring that thing in, I'm sure you can haul almost anything in from the surf. I have one of those rods, too... Since you're in Richmond, I might let you text the XT before you decide on the Emblem Pro...

Diawa or Okuma. I have a Okuma Expior on a 12ft Okuma Solaris and Diawa Emblem as back up.

The Nautil is discontinued. But if dunking is in your future go for it. If not then go for the other options. I really like my Nautil.

Mitchell Nautil, depends on which model you get. I have the black one and it is not a very good reel. Sancrab has the yellow model which seems to be a better model.
There might be a reason why Nautils are discontinued. :)

Digger and SS are right on. I love my Nautil for fishing the jetty on a 9' Tica stick and braided line (30# Stealth). For the surf, I have been converted to the "dark side" of conventional reels years ago and have not looked back. IMHO - and others - the advantages of conventional reels in the surf far outweigh any disadvantages (backlashes)...I'll never look back.. :)
Only bought one spinning reel for the surf - a Mitchell 396 Pro back in 86'...that reel is still kicking and sceaming to this day... :D
