Hey all,
any tips for casting 8nbait to keep from slipping on a wet spool? when the spool gets wet and trying to cast 8nbait on either a 525mag or abu 6500 it gets hard to keep the spool from slipping before I actually let it fly. only ripped up the thumb once thankfully.

Crank you drag down tight and re-adjust after the cast. ;).....Tightlines

use a piece of leather or rubber on your thumb to grip the spool.
Yep, try using a thumb guard. Should help with the slipping. Also you said you ripped your thumb, I assume with th shock knot??? I always put the shock to the right side of the spool and grip it with my thumb on the left side. Also I try to be on the line but also have some of my thumb on the spool edge. Helps with slipping. Also ya might want to slow down your cast, that helped cut down on the slipping for me too.

you could also take a piece of surgical hose
slice it down the middle and lay part of it under the reel seat clamp it down. pull it up and over the line before castin. when you cast it , just snaps back behind the reel. always there always ready for next cast.you could also use a piece of inner tube .
hope it helps ;)
leather works but when you have to control fluff if at all will phock up your line if u hit it hard. you can get surgical tubing and put in on your reel foot and use that, thats what i do. courtesy of breakaway usa!

should have finished, my last comment.
you can cut bicycle tire inner tube and make a piece to cover your thumb. you can make plenty off and old inner tube.
good luck

:D Wipe your thumb on your dry shirtcollar before every cast. Course,if ya still have a little "jizzem" left on it from cutting bait, there could be a little "funk residue" left on your shirt collar.. :p :--|
yeah but you gotta have normal size thumbs.... my lil thumbs.... oh the horror

Just for the record, I have slipped a numbers of times before, but slowing down the cast and the shirt collars works. I was down at the point a few weeks ago, wading waist deep, well knees and hip for most people there, with breaking waves from diff. angles.. the shirt collars works..
Remember Neil, we didn't slipped once.

I just wipe the thumb on the shirt pants or a rag if things are that slippery. Actually whatever is handy will work.

Usually,Digger,if I'm wearing waders,or in the case of the planks, raingear,my shirtcollar is the only thing dry.. :D But yeah, all ya got to do is look at the bunker and mullet jizzem on my fishing cloths to see we do the same thing..... :D

When my thumb slips it is mostly because I allpied the power to the cast too early in the cast.

When my thumb slips it is mostly because I applied the power to the cast too early.

thanks to all I'll try some tubing or leather. No cold ones that day, but I couldn't get the bait funk off my thumb enough to hold on while the line was still a little wet and the line probably had some funk on it. Oh well guess i need to start eating my wheaties again.
