I searched the keyword "fishing" on Netflix and came up with this bizarre gem from the early 90's.

In it, movie composer John Lurie takes a series of celebrities fishing. It gets weirder and weirder with each passing episode: fishing for sharks off Montauk with Jim Jarmusch; Costa Rica with an obviously frightened Matt Dillon; Jamaica with a perpetually seasick Tom Waits; ice fishing in Maine with Willem Dafoe, who proves a good sport; and Thailand with a phenomenally deranged Dennis Hopper.

It's amateurish and hammy, but still one of the strangest things I've ever seen.

That's good stuff. I'd like to see those shows myself.
Was the Jim Jarmusch episode shot in black and white?? ;)

Nope, it was in color. It's basically just the home fishing movies of a guy who happens to know lots of famous people. He overlays ridiculous narration about giant squid and starving to death.

Apparently it got made into a film in the late 80's by a group of Japanese businessmen at the end of their economic bubble. They decided some freak's home movies would make a great theatrical release. The flick didn't see daylight for several years, but this series is how it finally made it to home release.

I came across that movie the same way you did. It had some funny moments; in fact, it reminded me of some guys I’ve fished with. But for the most part it was pretty dorkey.

Yes, the Tom Waits. He puts a snapper down his shorts and fishes with it there for the rest of the day. Weird dude, though it was cool when he started singing nautical songs.

Fish Bait, it was definitely goofy, but with a surreal edge. Lurie is a weird guy to begin with, but he takes it all the way here.

I like goofy movies. Not familiar with Lurie but i have been a Jarmusch fan since "Strangers in Paradise".

FB, I'm not a big Jarmusch fan. But the one movie I really, really liked was Dead Man. If you haven't seen it, check it out.
