Small live baits, lip hooked and worked slowly in the surf can be deadly.

Roadkill,
It depends on what your fishin for. For flounder I use a 2/0-3/0 circle hook and hook them through the lips from the bottom. the best way to hook em is through the lips. ;) Me and my buddies also use peanut bunker and mullet for striper, again I use cicrcles, 5/0-6/0. :D

A really long book could be written on how to hook a live bait.

The best advice I could give in a few words is this, "Think how your target fish eats his dinner, head first or tail first, then hook accordingly".

Hello. Rudd what do you do? Eat the peanut butter and wait for the striper to hit the mullet?

Live minnows or gudgions work well in the surf and on a pier. I would use a hi lo rig or a carolinia rig dependi on where you fish.
