Teo,you've seen mine,it holds 4 rods.. Rack is one of those cheapo Berkley holders, maybe 12 ta 15bucks. It has hole in the back with foam liner and slot in the front with foam and a lock for the slot so it don't come out in transport. I've used this same rack with the ole zuki I had it held up till she died  ,lasted about 5 yrs.. The ones on the yota have lasted 3yrs so far no problems..
Very simple and bullet proof (that's why I went with these :D ) all ya gotta do is drill a few holes in your existing luggage rack get some stainless nuts, bolts and washers, and your good to go. You can attach at least two racks and transport up to 8 rods in them..
Dawg's gotta pretty nice one also..
Teo, ck out www.rackwarehouse.com . I got the Yakima ski racks with the locks. Can carry 7-8 rods and lock em up.

I drive a blazer and keep my rods on the inside. I use a home made version of the "rod saver" to keep them from getting banged up. Check out Cabelas.com for a pic. I know the 4runners have head room clearance so you will need to check and make sure they wont get in the way. I like it because I can just unclip it and carry all my rods in the house still attached to it. It is just another option if you dont want to pick bugs out of you eyeletes to start fishin.

www.thule.com, they've got a vehicle/year selection that'll get you set up with a rack that'll fit your factory racks... i'd suggest ski racks if you plan on carrying more than 4 rods, especially the heavers and big spinning reels. my buddy has the 4 rod fishin rack... great for the smaller spinnin' tackle, but it's a pain in the ass tryin to get 4 heavers and reels in that thing.

Teo, I just finished the one that Hat put out on this site a few months ago on the inside of my beater, holds 7 or so rods, had some brackets made to hold the back rack in place, need to tweek it a little. If your going to put a rack on top make sure you protect the rods from anything that might nick them on a road trip, just my .02. TRIGGER

You know driving a 2005 4Runner, he can't put some cheap PVC plastic up there! I bet he goes with the Thule's or Yak's. I have a 2002 Tahoe and store all of my rods in the back. I have the cargo "windowblind" thing pulled over the bay and lay my rods on that. My 7 footers barely touch my shoulder in the driver's seat. I fold my 11 footers in half.
Yeah, I need one of those roof racks too I guess. I just don't like leaving them out in the elements though. Just need one stray pebble to small my reel and that's enough to tick me off. I wonder if anyone makes a reel cover for this specific purpose. I think BPS makes something like that, with some plastic covered canvas. I alos live on the third floor of my complex and hate lugging my gear up the flights of stairs if I don't have to. A benefit of keeping it in my truck is that it's always ready to go. Man, can't wait to buy that house in a couple of months.
