Am I the only one old enough to remember fishing from boats and piers using hand lines. The lines were made of woven nylon [i guess]. You would use the same basic bottom rigs that we use today except you made your own. on the pier, you would get the line and weight swinging around your head and throw it as far as you could.
In a boat, you just drop it over and wait. In both cases you would hold the line in your hand and run it over your finger tips to feel the bite. Then you would haul it in hand over hand. This could get trickey if you got a fish over 5 pounds since the line would cut you.
I can remember sitting out in the bay, off Willoughby Spit [when it was a spit] and catching all the croakers and spot you could want.
Memories, Memories
