Penn Captiva Combo

Does anybody know anything about Penns 7' MH Captiva Rod with the 5000 reel?

i bought the combo at bass pro shops last week. it's an excellent rod and reel combo. not too big and not too small. perfect for catching spot,croaker, ive even got a few bluefish on mine. the reel has a real good feel to it and the handle is made really well on it.

the captivas are nice reels for the price. the reel seats on 'em are a little weak, but nothing to worry about... sure you could have some issues over time (like with any plastic) but i've brought skates to the top and caught many of decent flounder on the 4000. the 5000 has handled its share of schoolies and croakers, also been dunked and is still as smooth as the day i got it. if you take care of your stuff, it'll take care of you. those reels got alot of bearings in 'em (just more to rust) so keep 'em clean. other than that it casts great, smooth retrieve, instant anti reverse, and somewhat smooth drag (notice my 5000 is a little jerky... i think the 3ft. ray 'softened' up my 4000 a little ;) )

Like it alot. Like has been said, for the price.

Biggest complaint, 5000 gets heavy casting all day/night. Also, did pop out a guide ring last week for the first time. Prob not the rods fault though. Hit it on the pier on the back cast.

It's tough enough though. Used it to liveline perch last week and muscled a nice rock up to the boat w/ it. SOB spit the perch at the last sec though. Now I know what they mean about waiting to set the hook when livelining. :(

i bought one when i started surf fishing a couple months ago, its a great rod for the price, holds up well to the weather

only complaint i have is that it cant handle much weight, cant toss more than 2 ouces(9ft) without a struggle, otehr than that its a great rod

I have a Penn cll4000 live liner on a 8ft Tica Flats Matser and I love it. Great action, smooth feel and like rockstar and otter said it's a good for the price.
