I want to share with you all a call that I was involved in on 10/23/2005.
On 10/23/2005 at 1:20 PM my communications center recieved a call of a reported missing person. The missing person was a little old lady of 87 yrs of age and suffers from dementia. She was dressed in only a bathrobe and sneakers. The dayshift patrol squad which came on duty at
6:30 am was held over, all three fire companies in my town were activated, the local sheriffs dept was notified for k-9 tracking dogs, the USCG and NJSP Marine Division were notified as well as many other agencies. Myself and my squad that I work with came on duty at 6:30 pm. We work 12 hr shifts. The bulk of the search was called off around 11 pm as the weather was getting colder and damper. Throughout the night my squad contiued the search with no results. At first light the next day the search was again put into effect. We had our first frost for the year posted the night before. At 10:16 am the lady was found alive by the Grace of God and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. This goes out to anyone who has a relative or friend who suffers from alzheimers, dementia or any other affliction of the like. ------PLEASE-----Take special care in keeping an eye on them. I know it's difficult but they need our help. This could have ended very tragically, but it did not. With the oncoming cold weather, please kep this in mind.
