The Chinese guys making .50 cents a day that built the rods probably can't figure it out either.

I've seen rods rated 2-12 oz....That wouldn't throw 4oz! I've seen heavy bass rods, rated 5/8 to 1 oz. that'd throw a brick......
Nothing beats putting hands on a rod and feeling it for yourself. I probably look pretty stupid, standing in the rod shop, clipping different weights to the tip....But it works!

that put out a newer version of a rod keep the same model number, which is more of a blank identifier, but may incorporate better upgrades in terms of reel seat, line guides , etc., which could explain why one is priced slightly differently. As for the different ratings, go figure. I am especially wary of any rod rating that seems to wide. Not picking on them but I have a St. Croix that is rated 4-16 oz. No way can a rod throw both a 4 or 16 oz weight (and everything in between) equally well. As RR said ,best bet is to try before you buy, if possible, or at least post here and see what others have experienced with particular rods.

I saw a similar problem like that a few months ago on a tica rod in a shop. I actually got to picking them up and looking. One was a spinning rod and the other was casting according to the guides. It appera that the model number was wrong on the casting rod. Go figure....
