Hi, just wanted some honest opinions about which rod i should choose between these two, Daiwa Eliminator Surf or the Shakespeare Ugly Stik. Both 10 feet and both spinning rods. Reel to be used is a Penn 6500SS metal body. I had a 9 foot ugly stik before but it broke while casting minnows recently, dunno how......broke in half right where the two pieces came together.
Just wanted a few opinions to make my decision, did believe in the ugly stiks b4 this one broke though but still willing to try in case it was a lemon....

I would not own a Ugly Stick. The tips are to weak. People on the board have had them break, not sure of their customer service. I know Okuma has excellent customer service.

I have Ugly sticks. Never had a problem with the tips. Broke two and pulled the giudes out on one. As for customer service....Great. They stood by their agreement with replacing the broken rods with new ones as long as you have the reciept.
I personally like Tica and Okuma.
Neither, there are a lot better of factory rods that you could choose from. Starting from low to high 10 ft Tica, 10 ft tica dolphin, 10 ft Penn Pro Guide series... The daiwa IMHO is way to spongie and if ya look how it goes together @ the ferel it backwards to every other rod on the market. The Ugly Stick is just old technology had them back in the day and @ the time they were just OK... Tough rod great on a boat not that great fron da beach ... JMHO... JAM

If your looking for Diawa rods you may want to check out the Sealine X series.

My main use will be for jacks which usually range from anywhere around 8lb to 30lb and tarpon between 25-80 lbs. I catch these using artificial minnows off the rocks on the caribbean sea coast of the island. Will post some pics if anyone wants. But the rod has to be able to take a beating really. Just don't want to buy another rod that only last me a few month like the last ugly stik did. Customer service did say to return it and it will be replaced but I live next to venezuela and the shipping costs....may as well buy another rod anyways...The choices are limited in good quality rods also, in penn all we have are the smaller spinfishers-not too good for medium to heavy spinning, berkley lightning-not too sure of those, mitchell, and the daiwa and the ugly stik....might as well just buy a okuma online or sumtin???

I saw that you mentioned the Berkley lightning rod....My step-son has been trying to tear up a pair of 7' Med-Hvy spinners for three seasons....He hasn't had much luck, as they are tough as a brick! That might be an option.
if those are the only two choices I would say the eliminator.
