i got a new abu 6600c4....finally i got around to a day where i was gonna test cast it so yesterday i open her up again and decide im gonna take out the bearings and clean and relube them with red RF....well the new brake holder design looked pretty cool at first sight...having 6 brakes and all....but the holder is plastic vs. the old metal....so i was trying to remove it and that sucker just wouldnt come off...i was trying to be gentle.....while the old one was held in place by a C-clip...this one has a plastic ridge on the inside that i guess is supposed to pop in and out of the groove on the spool itself...finally i got it off .....but...the plastic ridge on the brake retainer was broken...pieces of the black plastic were still in theridge on the spool.....BTW if there is another easier or right way to get that thing off someone please tell me....and disregard this entire post

For me im gonna stick with the old style abus and put some new drag washers in em...

i dont know the thoughts abu had on this new brake system but IMO the C-clip/metal retainer was a much better design...

for the record this is second problem ive had with this reel...
also i think the old ones look better with the classic style...

I'm with ya, Chris...

I don't know if it's old age or what, but I think that ABU has screwed the pooch messing with the classic round reels....

I, too, will be sticking with the "old style"...Thankfully, there are millions that will be in pawn shops and on E-bay.

I just hope that they don't go to intercoursin' with the International Series....

sounds like a push on piece...it is either a throw away(you need extras)...or a piece that a reel shop needs a tool to remove without breaking...sounds like a throw away...
