OK steak lovers, give it up. What/Where
is your favorite steak joint at.
How do you like your steak?
I like a place called Mike's American Grille
in the Springfield VA area. I like
mine mostly medium. If I am real hungary
I like it medium rare.;)

I would have bet a $20 that you were going
to say rare or medium rare. Most steak
addicts will not get near anything past
medium rare.

Ribeyes, put them in a zip bag, pour worsteshire sauce over, set in the fridge for about 1hr, salt and pepper both sides and on extra hot charcoal grill.

I have always wanted to try a place
like Mortons or Ruth's Steak House.
The price @$200 per couple and the
dress requirements (I hate dressing up
to eat) have kept me away.
I wonder if the steak's are really that
much better.

talapia,
Steak at Ruth's and Mortons is over rated. If you never tried, I don't blame you for going there and eating one. But you go back there numerous times, you seriously have money to burn...
The steak they serve is aged and is pretty good, better than Outback, BUT its not worth 200 dollar check!!!
If you don't grill your own steak, steaks at outback is affordable and good deal which comes with salad and bread.

I have never been to outback...my wife
had a bad experience there before we
got married and now she will not go back.
Not a big deal...we go to a real nice
steak house (Mike's American Grille)
and they are real good. Casual dinning
with a mid range price.

anybody cook their steak directly on the coal or wood? I read it in Alton Brown's (the guy who runs the "Good Eats" and "Iron Chef America") book that flank steak directly on the coals is excellent...

As much as I like local down-home type joints, the best steaks I've had here in DC have been at places like The Caucus Room and Charlie Palmer. I go with the bone-in Kansas City Ribeye MR.
My buddy had a sirloin at C. Palmers the last time we were there that was amazing. It's basically an americanized Kobe beef. They're raised in Nebraska but treated like the Japanese cows ie each of them has it's own caretaker that massages them etc. $70 for a sirloin is a little ridiculous though....

Down in Harrisonburg, VA when I was in college they had a place called Texas Steakhouse. They had some good steaks too, some good sweet tea and medium steak is awesome...
for late night study breaks, good old waffle house. "I'll take steak and eggs with eggs over easy and hashbrowns topped, diced, sliced, covered and floored..." good memories there... our waitress name was Flo and one time my friend didn't get ham in his hashbrown and she went over and grabbed a handful of ham and dropped it in his plate... haa haa... :D

Me, with the preferred, self cooked on the grill, and yes RARE with onions and portabella mushrooms and gravy, though do have to cook the boss' much longer.
Favorite two okay first one really isn't a steak, but one of my favorites on the grill, a london broil, the second would be a nice thick sirloin (actually even having it for tonights dinner).
Have Jeep will travel :D

Knoxville, TN the Butcher Shop. #1 select primo beef. You can cook em there is you wish. They have a 14' long grill full of hot coals and all types of seasonings for making the perfect steak. For me, 2" thick NY strip, butter, course salt, fresh black pepper, and multiple beer splashes. Rare.;)

What world are you from when you have to dress up to eat a steak???????
I would rather eat any one of you guys steak right off the grill.
Best steak is the home steak. Cook it like you want in what ever you want.
Flame gets to hot then you pour a little of the beer you have in your hand to keep in under control and add a little flavor.
And the all time best steak ever, is the one you set aside and cut pieces off while it cooks to share with the buddies as you huddle around the grill to keep warm.

Ok Talapia and gang, I took my wife to Morton's and Ruth's Criss Steak houses for different events and I have to say, Mortons won the battle of the beef. Tender and juicy with incredible flavor, plus the service was incredible. Either way, both serve a MEAN STEAK!!!
Now, that don't mean we can't cook a mean steak at home but I thought the question was "best steak places".

stone bridge tavern also has the best seafood in the area (that's important if you live 400 miles from the coast), but the absolute best steaks in the area are at Buck's on Tunnel Rd, oh dang, there i go again, wrong decade, shoot, wrong century, Bucks has been closed for 30 years. LOL

Great minds think alike. I've ate all kind of steaks, including Kobe Beef, and the frend 1/4" thick steak  , but ribeyes are the steaks I would pick. It's not thick, no thin, enuf fat on them to make them juicy on the grill.

I also go to Mikes in springfield... cool place and the dress code is pretty casual... I love their sandwhichs
However, I hear what your sayin' on the $200/couple thing, but If you ever want to do that sort of thing.... I suggest Shula's They are great, the service is great and it is the best damn steak I have ever had....
also.... If you are in Va Beach, check out the Cavalier Hotel - the old hotel which is on the hill... You get to pick your steak and the gentleman on the grill cooks it to your liking.... also, they have a mighty tasty burger... I use to put Fudd's burgers at about a 7... but since I went to cavalier, I put the cav burger at about 8.5 and fudd's got bumped to 3[/SIZE]

There's a steak place in Ellicott city called T-Bones,they serve a great ribeye almost 2" thick, they also have filet minons(sp) eather 1 or 2 it depends if your hungry and also prime rib that comes in 3 or 4 sizes and thickness. I do like a nice ribeye that's a little thicker than what you get at the market, then I mix up my family marinate and let the steak sit in it for 1 1/2 to 3 hrs and put on the grill till it gets to med. rare with that a couple of sweet potatoes and freash green beans.:D :D

be advised, you hit the nail on the head about pricey. I nearly fainted from the bill but then again, I expected that amount. We did it up. :D Drinks before dinner, wine with dinner, and after dinner drinks. Dessert as well. We came home poorer but well stuffed.
Either way you won't be disappointed but my wife enjoyed Morton's better. I guess the presentation is what got her. Food was incredible. It was an experience. Now, for the price, I could've bought an Inferno... :p
We can't take it with us when we die, might as well enjoy it here....

Favorite steak joints:
1) some place in Elkheart Lake Wis. I can't remember the name (was about 10 years ago), but it's one of the cook-ti yourself places.
2) Sullivan's in Indianapolis. Crazy good & crazy expensive.
3) My back yard.
Favorite cuts:
1) Porterhouse, Tough to beat a Fillet next to a NY strip.
2) Ribeye

I would probably get thrown out of
a really nice steak house as I tend to
drown my steaks in A-1 sauce or
Heinz 57. :D If I am at home, I
will use Ko-chu-jong. A hot/sweet Korean
red seasoning sauce.

I have to say down here in MB, SC there are a pretty good number a really good top quality steak joints to belly up to. Pricey but high quality cuts.
I would have to go filet if I am out. Nice T-Bone if I am home.
Both rare.
