Deadly dicks, crocodiles, crippled herring, hopkins, diamond jigs? What type do u like the best in the surf for stripers and blues etc.? The deadly dicks look like they'll cast a mile, but will they have any action? I had great success with diamond jigs on the PB's last fall (hammered gold for bass was deadly) out of sheephead bay......so I'm thinking why not try them in the surf....plus they're pretty cheap.

Kastmaster spoons with bucktail. You can feel those things moving when you reel them in. They wobble great so it can stay in the water longer. It's also so well balanced that it won't put a bunch of line twist into your spool. Things cast great too.

Two or 3 oz Kastmaster. Sometimes with dressed hook, sometimes without. I don't know of anything better. On two occasions this past year I caught the first few fish on one while several other people were casting much larger spoons that they would not touch. I have had very little success with surf stripers or blues with anything larger than 3 oz. Two oz. is what I usually throw. I can tell you for a fact these will catch them.

Krocs, Hopkins, Kastmasters, Diamond jigs, Deadly dicks and Little Cleos. I like the cleos because they are a sort of a tear drop shape. More oval and they spin really well.

This is what I use. The rod is a Purglas 300-3. 9.5 ft Spinning with plate reel seat taped to loomis tape grip. The reel is a Whisker SS 2600 loaded with 20 lb power pro. I use about 30 in. of 30 lb. florocarbon leader. I attach it to the power-pro with an allbright. I use a short,(6 in.) small diameter ( 20 lb or so)metal leader if blues are around. If I don't use a metal leader, I use a high quality, small cross snap ball bearing swivel. You will need it with most spoons. As far as color I like silver or silver blue. I use a dressed hook it the water is not clear. This will catch them if anything will. Sometimes I use a 2.5 oz Hopkins. Lure Jensen makes a lure called the Casting Champion that I like also. It is built a little flatter than a Kastmaster and has a very good finish. The cheap metal looses it's finish very fast when it is getting chewed on. This is a fun way to catch fishYou just run the beach looking for the birds and fish. When you see them swimming in the breakers this is the ultimate.I use to waste my time casting 6 oz sting silvers on a heaver to the far out fish. The purglas will throw that 3 oz Kastmaster a long ways. If you reach the fish it is a done deal. They will hit it. If the fish are real close the Crocadile spoon is good.

Damn, Rat. I'm taking notes on that last post of yours. Good stuff. :D
One thing. I've been tossing a new Daiwa SS 1600 for about three weeks now. I'm not sure I like it as much as my SSII. It's kind of heavy for a small reel. No infinate anti-reverse, either. It just doesn't seem as smooth.
I dunno. Now that it's got a scratch on it, I just might have to get used to it.

I use a snap swivel with my spoons. Lets me change out fast if there is a blitz on. The swivel keeps from getting line twist too. I use a duo-loc style.
My favorite is 2oz chrome. I haven't had different results with different colors. I've used the chrome/blue one and it produces about the same. I think if you're working in the surf, the water is going to be pretty murky from the wash and all it takes is a flash in the water to incite a strike.
I use a 11 foot daiwa eliminator and penn5500SS with 17lb test. Works well.

I am pretty fond of Crippled Herring's (2-5oz) myself when slinging metal!
