Is the only way to double your main line with the bimini twist? This damn thing is confusing to tie. But I need somehting that will glide through the conventional guides smoothly.
I have searched and found some others but your thoughts would be cool.

You can use a spider hitch or a surgeon's knot. Both are really easy to tie and hold pretty well. I've never had a problem with either one.

a surgeons knot for doubling a mainline? I know that knot, and you are right it has held in the past and is really easy to tie. Part that bothers me about the surgeons is that the line tends to get all twisted up when you are running up all the leader through the knot trying to tie it.
But I have been experementing with a double line blood knot. It comes in really strong (not DD tested)
Spider hitch is what I use till I get the bimmini mastered. May not be 100 percent like the bimmini but tied properly cuz I am comfortable with it is better than a poorly tied bimmini.;)

Spider hitch works good for me. the surgens loop the knot seems to be a liitle to large for going throught the guides. the spider hitch is just about the right size.

Teo showed me the 4-5 wrap spider hitch, after i had a fish break off at my sl knot a few weeks ago.
Man that is an easy knot. simple. not as strong as the bimini twist but well you know.
Ad a no-name not and you are in business

The quick and easy way to double the line is with out a doubt a spiderhitch. Back when I fished Jigmasters or my GS555 I used no shock line I just doubled the last 25 feet or so (Old School). It worked well.

Listen go with the Bimini Twist, I had never tried to ty it b4 this season b/c I wasn't into surf fishing but now that I am I have tried to learn as much as I can. I went out for the first time this season with new gear. the night b4 I rigged all my rods and learned to tie the Twist, now I tied it on 3 rods Well when I went fishing I got hung up about 6 times and had to re-rig You learn to tie it real good when you are out there with out a reference. Go to www.hatterasoutfitters.com click on Knots & Rigs and got through their animated Bimini Twist Know and try tying it a few times, The hard part is keeping pressure on the top and from the bottom, Once you get that you are golden. Good luck ,and practice

One knot that I do not see mentioned is the Australian plait or braid. It is more accepted than the Bimini twist in some areas.

I find that The Bimini twist is my best knot for tieing a doubled line. I had to search out several different online references and read through them several times. I picked up small details from the different sources. Practice was the key for me...
