Typically I see them at the pier houses or any of the B&T shops that are right along the coast. You can probably order one online too. I'm gonna get one next time I head down to go fishing, they seem so much easier than using your hands.;)

..Tex's does have the rakes....the one you want is the "doublewide"..and it is about $40.00..
.I have the doublewide rake, and it does a great job ..BUT ONLY WHEN THE FLEAS ARE THICK..
meaning when the fall fishing gets here, ANY rake is almost useless..
Get you one of thoes double sided minnow traps...and keep one side with you on the beach..when the fleas are scattered, deep, and only a few showing ...that minnow trap is the tool!!! ..it digs deep and drains quickly....
..all summer and until the weather starts to cool, the flea rake works fine...
...BUT..when the REAL pompano and mullet fishing starts, in late September thru early December...you NEED that minnow basket..
You can go deeper, faster, and more effective, on the few pods of fleas you find.....
..o yea...your gonna get wet too...

Do the fleas not escape through the opening in the end of the minnow trap?

Halfhitch tackle carries them and they have a website. I'm guessing Academy has them also. they're usually about a 4' metal handle with a rigid rectangular basket on the end. If you ever buy one, spend the extra couple bucks and get a big heavy duty one. The cheap ones bend pretty easily when you're diggin deep and the small ones are almost useless when the fleas are scarce.

.."do the fleas escape thru the hole in the minnow trap"
..very few..your dipping with the edge of the trap and the hole in the middle is funneled away from where the fleas come in...
The black coated minnow trap is the best..take much longer to rust out...
..also..a perfect tool to wear while catching fleas in this manner is a string carpenter nail apron tied around your waist..
..leave you hands free to keep digging when your on them..
just drop fleas in nail apron and dig again..it gets stinky, sandy , and stiff, but its the thing for making bait in a hurry, and not losing the pod before you work em 3-4 dips...

that sounds awesome. How hard is that on ur back though. I know with the kiddie dip net that i have used it kills my back. The apron is a great idea.
