So yesterday I went bass fishing at local lake and while jigging a tube bait I hooked a branch. I was able to move it through the water slowly and get the branc just about to shore where I could reach it and like an idiot I pulled my rod back and as I reached for my line it all of a sudden went limp. Thats when I realized I snapped my rod in half. It was an older Shimano rod that I bought as a combo back in 2000, 6'6" medium action rod with a Shimano Sedona reel on it. So now I'm in the market for a new rod for that reel.

I checked out the Shimano Convergence rods last night and I think I may have found one. It's a 7' medium/light action rod rated for 1/8-1/2oz(I think). Pretty soft tip on it and it seems like it would be perfect for specs and maybe flounder.

Has anybody used these rods before?

I have a 6ft medium action casting that I use for crankbaits and spinners and think its a great rod, especially for the price. Got it on sale for 30 or forty bucks i think.

Well I decided to buy the 7ft rod and I love it. I used it last Saturday for a few hours down at a local lake. It really fits my Sedona reel perfectly and I can cast noticably farther than with the 6'6" rod that I originally had. Although I didn't catch anything with it I did like how it felt when jigging a grub and the soft tip allowed me to give it tons of action.

I agree that for $40 its going to be perfect for trout fishing.

I;ve always thought that if yo can get 7' instead of 6' or 6'" you'll be better off. For piers, lakes, streams and just about everything. Bought a penn slammer spinning rod 7' for walking the beach and casting into the waves and it is SO much better than this other 6'6" daiwa rod I had. love the extra length and casting ease
