Where and when is the best Red Drum surf fishing on the East Coast?

Need to go on a Red Drum safari!

Thanks Bluesman

you've been around this site since '03 and haven't figured that one out yet? Hatteras either now or October

I've been going to Hatteras since you were 8, the boards don't always reflect real life. I catch more and better bass and blues in Jersey than Hatteras. OK, guess I have to ask "What is the second best place to catch Red Drum on the East Coast?" Or I have to go to the gulf!

i was just messin with ya...sarcasm is hard to convey on the boards, i should have used a smiley. Bass and blue fishing is better up north than in hatteras, but it is the premier surf fishing destination for red drum. one member here, clinder, doesn pretty good off tybee pier in georgia, and there are some caught off piers in florida, but thats about it. Texas (PINS) is the other premier surf fishing destination for them.

Theres a pretty good spring run in Assategue...VA barrier islands...if ya can get a ride out to the Isalnds....I'm pretty sure ya can hook to a big Juan.... Feeshin tip#2...Bait of choice in tha spring....freshly harvested peeler crab on a 10/0-8/0 circle....If ya want a challenge ...take a yak out and hold on!

That' s what I was hoping for!
I eyed AI up last fall, plenty of beach, plenty of sloughes, half the distance to Buxton. I'll try not to take up too much room.

Thanks for the info and tip #2,

Bluesman

May bring my tin boat, cross the bay down by Chincoteague, and try those barrier islands like you suggested.

Depends on where you are. Follow VIC's advice if you're down south. As for me, I like to do the late September drum run on the northern Outer Banks.
