Welcome rndhededflip to Pier and Surf.

You might want to tell people where YOU are so the folks near you can answer your question instead of getting answers from people who live five states away.

Group? What do you mean? Do you mean like the PSYCOs? - Just come to a meeting. PM Redskinfan and start getting the newsletter. I don't know of any other groups.

The best price I've seen on Pier Carts - New that is, is Randy's Bait Shack. But I don't know where you live.

I feel the same way regarding the pier / surf carts. i'm going to make one from PVC pipe.

As far as groups go...I see on the profiles, mine included that I am not a member of any Public Groups. Never clicked on anyone's profile that was a member of any public groups.....and have no idea what public groups are. and actually....I don't really have any interest in finding out.

Good suggestion from the last post, though. update your profile so that at least the state that you are from is visible. will help for getting local info.

Welcome aboard

For a sturdy, but fairly cheap cart, pimp out a Radio Flyer All-Terrain cart (79.99 at Walmart) or modify one of the steel garden carts that range from $50-$70 on ebay. I'm currently working on a Radio Flyer cart that's turning out very nicely. :)

Let me know how that works out - I was thinking of doing the same thing myself last year, and let myself get talked out of it.

I don't think the "groups" feature is turned on on these forums. I've never seen anyone's profile show them as a member of a public group either.

That's what I was getting at, rndhededflip, go to "User CP" at the upper left and update your profile so we can see where you live and such.

OK - then the best price on the pier cart (new) would be Randy's Bait Shack - and his ad is on the Virginia Forum and he also has his own forum on this website.

Well, we'll be meeting at his place the weekend after this coming one - Saturday, April 29th. PM redskinfan or Catman32 for directions...he's right near the OVP though, so you may just want to go park there and give one of us a call.

Well, watch the "marketplace" forum here - someone may advertise. Also check the Trading Post.

Made my wagon out of aluminum and aircraft tires as we often pull a long ways down the beach. For three of us we carry two coolers , chairs, tackle boxes, 10 poles etc . We have to hike a ways and like to be equipped. Used bearings for front wheels they corroded in short order will be rebuild with sleeve bearings. The large tires help in soft sand and add floatation when needed. I use a two wheeler out of aluminum with wide plastic wheels other times. Has been modified to strap on rods etc. yet still light weight.

Rory,

I've also got anpther Idea that I may Implement snce I already ahve the materials on hand. Up here n Pa we fish in the winter through the ice and we have plastic Sleds that we use to cart our stuff out on the ice. Was thinkling of fitting up an axle to this with some removable tires and using that. Would be no trouble to rig some rod holders. They are VERY light and wash out easily. Drain holes would be appropriate. Bonus is they are not expensive and come in various sizes

go to lowes and check out their garden carts...they rate to carry 1500 lbs and are a good size for alot of gear...ive got one i mounted 8 rod holders on.....i also painted it blue...

tghey hold 2x as much stuff as a big fishnmate and cost 50$ plus the cost of rod holders or whatever.....

they are not much wider trhan the fishnmate either if they are wider at all....

my stepdads got a fishnmate...we use the lowes cart

If you get really desperate, steal a cart from Wally World (ol man Sam won't miss it):p

But seriously for a cheap alternative at the pier I've seen some guys come onto the Sanibel pier with these in the Jumbo size http://premiercarts.com/folding_shopping_carts.htm (http://http://premiercarts.com/folding_shopping_carts.htm)

its only 150 lbs capactiy and not a whole buncha room, but its cheap, it folds, and people use em, so they can't be that bad. Not for the beach though, the wheels aren't made for it at all.

Just wire some pvc pipes to the side and attach some pokcets or somethin to the outside

i just went to BJs and they have broken carts that they set aside and asked if i could have one of them...took one that the basket broke so i took the basket off and now i use bungee cords to strap 2 coolers, 2 buckets, big tackle box and 8 poles to it and it works fine for pier and you cant beat free :)
