As some of you know my better half had her lower back fused today. 2 rods, 6 screws and 2 spacers. We got to the hospital at 6 am this morning. They took her in at 7:30. she got out into recovery around 12:30. The doctor said that it went ok. Took longer than he thought. She's gettin morphine for pain every 3 hours so she's pretty loopy. Doc said that they are gonna have her up and walkin a little later. She'll be in a back brace 4-6 months which shoot the s**t out of her fishin season. But there is always next year. Just thought I would give ya an update. Tight lines.
Thanks for the update Dogg, let her know we are thinking about her.

Dogg,
I hope this lends some encouragement...
I fell while rock climbing and smashed the 3rd lumbar. Xmas eve, `99, I spent 6.5 hours in surgery. Bone grafted from my hip, two titanium rods and a sewn 16" incision later, I was "fixed". Took it very easy during January with my "turtle shell" as a constant reminder that I was on a restricted movement watch. Mid-February and I was driving again (headed to the North Carolina Speedway for a race). March arrived... and though still in the "shell", I was getting around quite well. By April, the shell was gone and I was pronounced fit to proceed with life.
My best for a speedy and safe recovery!!
Jim

Talked to Kim today, she will be allowed to come home tomorrow. She has been up and walking around and able to eat, etc. The doctor said that since she has made great progress she can come home. She's off the morphine and the doc gave her Percoset, Flexiril, and Xannax to help her sleep. Thanks to all for the well wishes. She really appreciates it.

Hey everyone..........
I just wanted to thank all of you for your thougts and words of encouragement. I'm really sore but I've got good meds. I have been walking a little just out to the street. We have a ramp so it's pretty easy for me. I'm using a walker right now but I'm getting stronger every day. Thanks again and I hope that me and Rudde will be able to get down that way to meet you guys.

I had back surgery 3 times in 9 months. My best advice is to take time in you're recovery and don't push it. I had did and that's why I had the 3rd surgery. Our prayers are with you and R dog and remember to use the pity to the fullest extent on the Mister.

Mrs. Dogg, my apologies for not getting online and reading closer/sooner. I know disc fusion and back surgery are a difficult process and can be a difficult recovery. Glad to hear you're doing great! Must be all the TLC Mr. RDogg is giving you and the prayers from everyone. All the best to you for a speedy recovery!!
