The learning never stops, and guys, I appreciate it. I'm kinda hard-headed, and have caught a lot of fish in my time. I was proud of the knots I HAD been using to join lines together, but I found that they were actually the weakest link in my gear....
Over the past couple of days I have learned the Bimini Twist (almost...they're ugly but solid) Spider Hitch, No-name, Yucatan, and Alberto knots.
I have settled on the Bimini/Yucatan or the Spider/Yucatan to attatch shockers to running lines. Both of these knot combos will reliably break your running line before knot failure. I've got the tired, cut hands, and a gallon zip-lock full of knots to prove it...
I will now use the Uni-uni, Blood, and Standard ONLY where I want a known failure point, such as on my flounder/sheephead rods to attatch a tippet to braid. This way, I'll get all my braid back when I hang up, and leave VERY LITTLE line in the water for creatures or other fishermen to hang up on.
I'm glad to be part of the P&S crew, because we make fishing more interesting, every day!
