Holy schnikies... in the video that thing stripped off a whole 300 yards of line in about 8 seconds!

Good thing about that thing, though, is you don't have to freeze your rig to launch it.

Showing up at your local spot with a morter tube is sure to draw some attention. Homeland Security needs to know about these guys.:D

I've given up on the compressed gas launchers. Showing up on a beach with something like this could easily lead to jail time, and I am way too pretty for prison.

Rest assured that the project continues. I ordered two balloon launchers today, one of which is rated for 250 yards. I'll do the testing with frozen blocks of ice to approximate the weight of 8 and a bait (don't want to pollute with balloons).

The problem is finding something rigid, yet light enough to to drive into the sand and withstand the force of pulling back.

I think driven sand spikes could withstand the pull, but I need something to put in them to get the arms high enough.

Hey Flea, might look at something that attaches to your hitch receiver for anchoring.Shaped like a goal post with a swivel at the base and about 5 or 6 ft. extention from tailgate.

Dont forget to say:" Hey ya'll, watch this"!

I can say that is what I was thinking. Even if it is a front hitch that can swivel. I is a solid achor on the beach. Reah hitch that can extent out or up. Heavy tubes but can bolt togeather and be solid for one man operating...

I like the idea of the hitch looking like a goal post. Put a hook with a release near the cab of the truck. You can use a come-a-long or something of that sort to crank the thing back. It would be a HUGE sling shot with a trigger. Only 1 person would be in harms way. Just pull the release and away she goes.

If you didn't like the idea of the trigger system you can sit in the back of your truck using the fender wells as foot holds. You can pull her back as far as you can at let her loose. I prefer the trigger, if one of those tubes break it is gonna hurt!!!

use a pole vault pole. And they come in different power ratings. You could rig up the ends to anchor into the sand.

A swivel base would be a must.Just to be able to aim and to keep from fireing a chunk of lead and a mullet through one of the trucks windows, which will only leed to one of those WTF:rolleyes: questions later at home.
And a trigger may cut down on some of those embarassing marks left by a malfunctioning rubber tube stretched waaaay toooo tight.

The pvc at lowes/home depot etc is alot thicker than the sand spikes you buy at the stores. At first i bought some at the stores until i found out how much thicker/stronger they are. The price of them once you cut them to size is alot better than the store bought versions too. I would check that out flea, cut em to size, heck if you driving out on the sand you could stand on a pickup tailgate to drive em in and then they are still plenty tall. Just a thought.......

CPVC is really rigid and is what I'll probably end up using. It's light and will probably do the trick.

The only problem is that rigid materials, when put under heavy pressure until they break, splinter really badly and explosively. And I'm not looking for an unexpected piercing.

Because I am a moron, I'll probably try it anyway.

I could be mistaken, but I believe CPVC is less prone to breaking and splintering under press than PVC is. My logic on this is that everything I've read regarding fireworks is to use CPVC for this reason. Could be wrong though, but I guess it doesn't much matter as you'll probably try it anyway.
