Sheepshead are more and more populaer in Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. However, little is known about this population. ODU is conducting a sheepshead population dynamics research which is suggested by VA CCA and funded by VMRC. I am the PI of the research and we need your help to collect sheepshead in Chesapeake Bay. To collect the fish from recreational fishermen, we have put coolers at Little Creek Marina, Taylors Landing Marina, Bubbas Marina, and Marina Shores Drive on weekends, and a cooler at Long Bay Pointe Marina 7 days a week. We would really appreciate if you could donate your sheepshead or their carcass (after filleted). We have tags and pencils in the coolers. You may fill the tag with only catching location and put it either in the fish mouth or under its opercula. If you want to donate the carcass, please weigh the fish first and write down the weight on the tag. You may keep the tag number at the top-right of the tag and in about one or two weeks go to our website to find out age, sex, maturity of the fish you have donated. The results from this research will help the VMRC to enhance and manage sheepshead fishery in Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. We would like to thank you all for your support in advance.
