My next door neighbor got one....IT SURE IS BLUE! Looks like it would make a great buggy in silver or black! He says the gas mileage SUCKS towing his Nautique, like 14 mpg. Said it tows the boat well, though. He loves it!

I saw one out there, too. Might have been the same ride.

It sure does look cool.

But kinda small for my taste.

Nice ride, though.

I saw my first one the other day. I like the looks of it, but it's still up in the air as to whether it's beach-worthy.

The early specs would suggest it is. Looks like a super-functional vehicle, able to be hosed out. Kind of reminds me of the old CJ-7's.

Too much plastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Blind spots, and frontend awful low with stock tires.
FJ-40 if you want the real thing.
Never ever paid sticker for anything, and you will for a new cruiser. I know plastic don't rust, but my 40 recently got an aluminum tub doors and window frames. the money I spent restoring will be worth every penny. And the really nice thing she tops out at about 60, with original gearing so no tickets and at almost 3 bucks a gallon and 18-20 mpg not bad.

Dang Tom, that FJ-40 looks like something outta Grave Diggers shop! I'll bet it can go through some s**t though.

The FJ-Cruiser does look purty...

FJ is supposed to be real good off-road and to people I've talked to that experienced one, it's a very smooth, too.

Given that it can be washed out on the inside, I think it would make a very nice beach buggy.

From what I have heard on all the other Toyota site is that it uses the same suspension set up as the new Tacoma and the same 4.0 L V6. I currently own a 05 tacoma 4x4 and I love it. But I am still try to get her in the air and some bigger tires.

Thanks for all the response. I have not seen one yet. I have read that the Toyota dealerships are very firm with the price!!!! Premium gas too, Why would they do that for a rugged SUV? Hmmmm, I want one but the primium gas thing isn't going to work with the price of gas being so high. I like the looks tough.

I'm a big toyota fan (got a '00 Tacoma), and I gotta say that I'm not completely sold on the FJ. The white roof definitely has to go. On the other hand, I've seen a bunch of pics of it offroad on the rubicon trail, and saw some posts on a tacoma forum I frequent from guys that were there and said even in stock form it was doing quite well. The premium gas thing kinda sucks, but that's really nothing new. More and more vehicles have engines that are being tuned to their limits on pump gas and require the premium stuff. It's a wallet hit, but if you wanna play ya gotta pay. I'm not really into the whole SUV thing, but with my gf looking for a new vehicle, if I thought I could convince her that it wasn't ugly I'd be in the dealership trying to negotiate her a price.

You know why the dealerships are firm on the price? Because they can; these things are selling fast and they usually ship the autos with all the options so they'r more expesive. If you can wait, for the market to fill up a bit, they'll slow in demand and you can pick a model without all the bells and whistles and likely hagle a lower price.

I've seen them up close, just hadn't test drove one, yet. They're nice. I see a minor drawback: blind spots.

I'm a fellow yota owner but I'm not a big fan of the design of the FJ - dunno, maybe it's too boxy like a Range Rover or it reminds me of the butt ugly Honda Element.
I do like that they did implement some classic front-end design of the original Landcruiser.

*No offense to any Element or RR owners.

dealer markup here in the Charleston area is something like $5k, and people are still buying them!

I saw one with the low end trim level and it made me puke. Black steel rims, plastic this, plastic that... :--|

Only people that I've seen driving them around here are daddy's little girls talking away on the cell phones. I was reading up on them and it looks like they used the 4Runner's platform to make it.

I was just at the dealership today to get a part for my truck, and decided to see what the inside of an FJ looked like. Tell ya what, I retract all previous statements, I wouldn't push that vehicle on anyone. It may be great offroad, and the overall exterior shape isn't too bad, but I'm not a fan of their color scheme (white roof). Moreso, I can't fathom paying for the interior...absolutely hideous. The seats weren't too bad, but for a vehicle that was stickered at $35k, I can't believe how cheap and plain the interior appears. Being Toyota, I'm sure the parts are quality and that durability will be there, but the surfaces are all flat and featureless. My vote: no thanks. For the same money I'd much rather have the forerunner or a taco.

I saw one last week on the beach @ OI, nice looking vehicle, my curiosity meter was spiked, went to test drive one yesterday, did not like the interior of the vehicle and all of the plastic on the outside. Also the price, $33,995 was the sticker of the one I was looking at. I looked at the Yukon XL that I just got last year and said " You have to be satisfied with what you have because it's way better than what you just drove" Just my .02.....Murph :)

If your lookn to make this into a beach fishn crusier ya better make sure that a cooler rack can be attached to the front end by the way of reciever hitches. A few guys have found some of the newer SUVs aint built right for attaching racks.
The only other thing I see wrong is it ain't a truck :p

Think I'll go back and hunt something more like Clyde's buggy..

I checked one out the other nite with the wife and asked about the top being white and they told me it's the cruiser's signature from way back when they were first made, it didn't look bad and I thought it was pretty nice for 31K, the salesman told me as soon as they get them on the lot they go and if you want it you've got to give them a down payment of $500 to hold for you. just .02 TRIGGER
