Going to North Topsail Beach in mid Sept. We always stay near New River Inlet somewhere near the "post" that is out in the water. Been making my own mono leaders for years using double-barrel crimps, usually 100-150# mono. We want to fish for some biters so I bought some SS wire material (180#, was the highest test BPS had, so it will have to do). I tried making these leaders the same way I make my mono leaders using the double-barrel crimps, actually used 2 crimps on both ends. Should I be using a single barrel crimps?, having the tag end run right back thru the same crimp after going thru hook eye? Would appreciate everyones input, thanks, " the old farmer from Pa."

Two crimps with the wire going back through the crimps a third time. That is what I found to work. I don't do heavy stuff any more and just use straight wire or sevenstrand which I knot.

I prefer the single barrel clamps for steel. Thats just me. I do use two on each end. I've had problems in the past with the double barrels holding. I like the doubles better for mono.

Being and "old farmer" then you probably know what a "haybail twist" looks like... ;) That is what I would use on single stran wire... JMO... :)
