Do they bite equally as well in the mid water column under a float, as they do on the bottom with a fish finder rig?

I've never fished for them in FLA.. I would think if they are feeding on crabs, bottom,if they are feeding on mullet or shrimp,a float should work fine..
Here we fish for them with bottom baits, unless we see them on top, then it's jigs or hopkins..

Durrin' the day the top hook of my homemade 2 hook rigs catches 90% of the fish. It's my experiance that drum "sightfeed" durrin' the day.I use tall(80") rod holders with a 10' surf rod that keeps the baits off the bottom.(probably 15' at the tip of the rod)
A couple times my buddies fished right on top of me with fishfinder rigs & did'nt even get a strike while I had 2 fish on almost all the time. Both days I gave them a fish to take home! They use my rigs anytime they fish with me now.
It may not matter at night but the 2 hook rig unquestionably beats the fishfinder rig durrin' the day.Matter of fact I don't even own a fishfinder rig...189 drum in '04,245 in '05 & 60 so far this year, can't argue with sucess
I learned this by snorkleing out under the breakers in the summer(many years ago) to see how the rigs set.

This is about the best pic I have of the rig.(& my best buddy:Warrior)

Hand-tied, double bottom rigs work! Maybe just a fluke, luck or works as advertised. But about two-three weeks ago I went over to Sea Pup's place with some 100# mono, mustad 3/0 long shank hooks and some mustad 5/0 hooks. We tied some double bottom rigs which we used with great success the following day off of Fisherman's Island. Most of the redfish were caught on the top hook.
Will be using the same rigs this weekend and will post how we make out....

That post makes real sense,Seapuppy.. I've caught them on bottom many times during the day, with regular fishfinder, but I'm going to have to give your rig a try.. May increase my catch.. ;) :) BTW,PM is coming..
As far as not catching one on a float,I caught the second drum off Jennette's Pier in NC (fourty three lbs) with a live spot on a float.. This summer a school came by Avolon Pier in NC and attacked every floatrig out there...
