Wasn't tryin' to be a smartarse with the post above. I had a guy next to me at Chicks last week casting with his clicker on. I finally went over and turned if off for him.
In hindsight, I should have told him to be careful on his next cast.
Sure as chit, he blew it up.

To be honest, I did't feel too badly.
First they come over and ask if I have a lighter. So I hand one over. Then they fire up a joint and smoke it on the beach in front of everyone.
One of the guys then decides to sit in my kayak and take a nap.
I finally had enough and told him to get the hell away.
Googans. :--|
I honestly think the weed may have played a part with the reel blowing up.
Or not.

When does the reel click? Casting or winding in or all the time? Who worked on it last?

Opened her up, and the little screw that held the metal "clicker" was a little loose, the the piece was slipping into the "clicker gear". Tightened it up, all better.

the noise is mostly noticeable when casting.... definately not the line alarm... (i don't smoke dope.. too much to live for... and i have a gov. clearance...) dude said to open it up on the crank side (loosen the 3 screws) and just dab a little oil on the insides...
a little nervous about it... but its not a bomb... so i think i'll be aiight... i'll try to open her, lube it up, and then throw it a few times and see how it goes.
if anything i'll bring it along with some food for the BBQ next week.
werd.
thanks ya'll.

Just get the schmatic be fore you open it. They are not bad to work on. If no body has opened it it probably just needs cleaning and lubing.

ya i hear a nice warm soapy bath should do the trick to kinda clean out the insides, then let it dry out and lube her up.
i'm hoping for the best...
need to download the schmatic some where cuz when i bought it at Dick's sports, it was the display, and they didn't have a box with paperwork and reel cover for it. but i did get one hell of a discount!!

as im not sure what kinda clicking it is i cant say for sure but it could be a noisy levelwind. Ive been taking apart and repairing abus for about 5 years now and once they get some wear on them the levelwinds make a well pronuounced CLACK every time they change direction. My advice is honestly, never use another abu levelwind, weak stock drag, theres a clip that holds the spool bearing in that always ends up chewed up in the gears. Id looked for a used calcutta 400B, i think they're more reliable
