I love my Tica, the 9' 2-6 oz will huck a sting a mile. Of course a custom would be nicer, but that wasn't in the budget @ the time.

like notso said it depends on your budget and what you consider "good"
There is plenty to choose from- I like some of St. Croix stuff, but my go to rod for slinging arties is a 10'6" custom breakaway rod NIck Meyer built for me.:)
There is G Loomis, Lami, and others in the custom dept. $$$$$:( $$$$$
For budget minded Tica and Tsunami, or any number of off the shelf budget rods.
Have fun looking.

The 10' Conoflex Assassin for lures 1/2 - 21/4 oz. would be a good choice.

My favorite rod for slinging metal is the 10 foot St Croix. It's not cheap, Basspro sells it for around $180. You can also get them from evilbay for between $120 - $140.

Chris, I want that 9' rod. It's at the top of my list, too.
If I wouldn't have just gotten a RS1267 wrapped, I would have given a hard look at that Wheeler 10' as well.
The RS1267 is a nice rod for the money. It's 10'6" rated 2oz-5oz. Sweet spot seems to be around 3oz ... but I haven't had much time with it yet. Chris, I put your Pro Rocket on the RS, and it's a sweet combination. Thanks again for the deal on that reel.

I am in the same boat as you, i just got a new abu 6000 for $50.00, i have never used a conventional for tossing metal only spinners. what kind of distance are you folks getting when tossing 1-2 oz? is there a whole lot more distance as compared to a spinner? I like to throw conv. when surfcasting because of the extremely long distance. will i get the same results when trying to whip with the Abu? thanks

I'm interested in this thread too.
I have a couple of 8's Solaris' that I use for slinging. I'm happy with with them, but interested in upgrading if I can find something I like better.
I'm looking for a spinning rod that can handle around .75-3, with a sweet spot around 1.5. I use Coronado CD-50's with 15# PP.
Don't know the prices of the off-the-shelf rods mentioned above. Is there anything out there under $150?
How do the Tica and Tsunami compare with the Solaris? Worth the upgrade?
thx...

I throw the same. Tica 9' and can sling the hell outa 2-3oz metal. I have an Abu 5600CL with the level line still on and throw average 75-85 yrds. I have put a better drag in it and tuned it up some.

What do most people use, as far as the reel? I have been using a 6501 c4 but I see alot of people using spinning reels. Is there a advantage either way or just a preference.

? anybody?
Spinners are much more user freindly and the have a much higher rate of retreave. I can cast just as far with a spinner as a casting reel, also the big advantage of a spinner is that they work great with braid line. For metal braid is the only way to go for both distance and no strech when you got about 100yds of line in the water. JMHO!!!!
