I put on a BRAND NEW DOA CAL jerkbait, threw it one time, got a litle bird nest in my Ambassadeur, and picked it out. When I got the reel back in order, I had given up on that cast, so I reeled in fast to make another cast....
I was reeling full speed at 6:1 when I got a VICIOUS bite, but no hook-up....Here's all I got back of my DOA...

Bluefish. Lizardfish usually manage to find a way onto your hook, no matter how hard you try to keep them off. I think they like that disgusted look you get on your face when you reel them in.

Most likely a bluefish. I've lost 1000's of assassin paddle tails to those choppers.
Also coulda been a spanish, given the speed of your retrieve. If you zip anything by a spanish real fast, they'll take a strike just out of spite.

Could have been a bluefish but it might have been a small cuda or even a hound fish if it was on the surface.

to bring up old threads, but I had this happen the last trip I took and recalled seeing this thread. I just remembered to search for it.
DOA CAL retrieved but I don't remember feeling a hit. Brought it in and it looked exactly like that.
I'm still not sure what it was, though most likley a cuda. It sure would have been nice to know if it was a trout or mack or something else.
