I have 2 12 foot heavy conventionals that work great, but sometiems I want something lighter for when i don't need 8'n bait....I'm thinking something 10 foot MH...I want something light, and a good caster.

Lami surf king, okuma, tsunami? Should I trust the no name surf king guides even with braid? It'll be matched witha 525mag and 17# or an abu with 50# braid......for chucking 4-6 oz. + bait.....it would not be bad if I could toss spoons and heavy plugs with it too.

Ocean Master makes 10 footer that has fugi guides. I like it better than the Sealine-x that it replaced.

I have the XH 12' OM rod in a spinner ...... it throws pretty good with 8 plus ..... with a B/A Cannon ...... Heavy too ........ these are alot lighter .... Important if you plan on holding them ....... I know it has Fuji SS reel seat not sure about the guides though ...... but for 2 rods for $78 I'm doin cart wheels ....... Save more money for the reels ...... :D

Thinking reel hard about the 6500 TC from Abu ..... for the casting rod

You might want to consider the TICA Dolphin spinning series it comes in 10ft & 10.6 ft and it can sling 2-8 oz. The rod is light as a feather compare to my OM10. The guides on this model (fugi Alconite) are better than the TICA UEHA. The reel seat is Fugi DPS, both rods are MH 12-30lb.

Good Luck TM62

is a bit pricier ($189) but is light weight and fun to use as a light heaver. ( Don't try more than 5 & small bait)

At 13' it will sling metal a country mile.

Another option

Try the Diawa Sealine Surf Mod#SL-SA 1002MHRB A great light rod that will toss up to 4oz. easily.

The ldx seems a little bit more then I want to spend (also too long) especially w/o getting over a one year warranty......have any of u used the st. croix triumph rods?

What do u guys think of TSRS106MH2 10' 6" (triumph surf) w/ a five year warranty?......I'm not sure if i like fast action rods though, but who knows I might like it.

I have the 10'6 spinning rod. To be honest it's a nice $100 rod. I also have the Tica UEHA, and the Tsunami rods, and they all match up pretty well. I like the guides better on the St. Croix, and I also think the St, Croix has better cork on it. You won't go wrong with either the Tsunami, or the St. Croix. By the way I think the st. croix blanks are under rated.. so it's rated 2-6, but 5 with bait seems to be the sweet spot. I have had much as 6oz, and a chunk of bunker.

One of my setups include a Mag 525 17 lb Suffix Tri and a Tica UEHA 11ft. The rod was under 90 bucks. Can't beat it for the price.

We got back from OI several weeks ago and she came out and asked how many rods and reels does 1 man need? I explained that all the times I've come home, never once did I say "Hon I think I have too many rods and reels". She turned around and went back in the house! Art M

I have a custom lami 10ft that will throw 4-6oz n/p. I paid $75 for it. Now the value is up to $200 and I'm still not getting of that. I would go with the daiwa sealine or the emblem surf rod, decent price, light. I'm just a daiwa kinda guy.

you probably want something in the 2-5(6)oz range for the versatility your talking about. 4-6 might be a bit stiff for launching those 2 oz lures. 4oz and bait will be the sweet spot and you could throw 5-6 if you really needed to. I'd go 10'....but the LDX is a great choice also.
