Hi folks. Just wanted to say hello, and ask a question.
I live in Ohio-born and raised. I have visited the Outer Banks many times, and have taken a liking to surf and pier fishing. Only problem is that OBX is 10 hours away on a good day. I would like to determine if there are any other viable shores and piers just a little closer to me. Say within 8 hours?
I do very litttle fishing here in Ohio. Mostly, just at the pond at our camprgound. I enjoy fishing, but when I fish here, I just don't get the feeling I do when I am in the surf.
Also, any other land locked ohioans with the same problems? Would like to hear from ya....
Thanks for the site, and thanks for having me....

Well, don't know where you are in Ohio but when I visit the inlaws in Pittsburgh it's about a 7 hour drive and I live in Chesapeake, VA. within 30 mins. of VA. Beach and about 90 mins. from OBX. Hope this helps.

Do a mapquest directions to Cape May, NJ and Ocean City MD.
There are a lot of places to fish at these places and adjacent to them. In OC there is a national park where you can get an Off Road pass if you have a 4x4. There are not as many piers as the outerbanks but plenty of beach and inlets in both MD and DE. Look on the right side of your P&S screen and click on Coastal Explorer. This will give you an idea of what I am talking about.
Ohio .... I would hate to be land locked like that :--|

I relocated nearly 10 years ago and deeply regret not moving here when I finished collage 25 years ago..
Down here you will find:
Lots of good jobs.
Low taxes compared to up north.
Low cost of living.
I am 70 interstate highway miles from nice piers and bay side beach fishing.
I am much closer to river fishing where striper's run and catfish & croaker wear out your arms 'cuz there are so many hungry fish.
My only regret is not moving closer to the beach:(

My wife and I have a five year plan, which includes relocating. We both love the ocean and the beach, so we will be looking south. She thinks the Charleston, SC area, but we'll see.
The for the suggestions-NJ and MD. I will take your advice and check the coastal explorer. I mentioned to my wife today that I had an itch for some surf fishing, and she even mentioned Maryland. Maybe after the first of the year...
Thanks guys.
