I just got a new Daiwa Sealine Surf Rod ....
10' Med Heavy 3-6 oz's 12-30lb line rating ....

And I've decided I want an Abu on it ..... either a 6500-6600 model and wanted to hear everyones Favorite ..... I've been looking at the 6500 TC line ...... It will be a middle distance rig ..... something for Blues, flounder and such .....

So help me out guys ....... What do you like and why

You'll be needing two reels, a 6500 C3CT Blue Yonder or Mag Elite for the surf (no levelwind), and an "old style" 6500 C4 or Mag-X with the L-wind for piers, bridges, lures, etc.

I say "old style" because I'm not familiar with, nor have I heard a lot of info about, ABU's new generation of reels.

If you are new to ABU's you're gonna LOVE 'EM...Why??? Because THEY RULE, and the possibilities are endless for tinkering and modification..

I can guarantee the durability of the "old style"...I have some in use for 20 years. There are some deals to be had on them too, as tackle dealers are marking them down to make room for the new stuff. They are worth sniffing out.

With minor maintenance, they'll last forever.

The new ones may be WONDERFUL, but there's just not much info to go on yet....

what about gear speed ....... How does the 6.3:1reels work ..... or is the 5 something to 1 better .....

If my ABU's aren't 6.3:1, I get the gears and make 'em that way...Over the course of a fishing day, it saves A LOT of cranking.
