When you guys/gals are throwing lures in the surf for blues(stingsilvers, spoons, etc) Do you usually use heavy mon/ flouro or steel leader like Surflon?

I use a 4' leader when casting lures in the surf, jetty, or inlet. Usually it is 50 or 80 lb test mon - not flurocarbon... This I use for catching bluefisn in the ocean or barracuda off a party boat in San Diego.
Forget the wire leader myths and cut down on the amount of terminal gear (wire, snaps, etc.) you use...

dood. i dunno what kinda blues ya got up there..hehehe
down this way if its just casting, 50lb leader.... if theres a mess of fish in the water or their big single strand wire. when their feeding they're not going to care much as long as it moves in the water.
spanish are another story all together

I was not talking about if they will choose when they are ina blitz but how often do you get cut off with just mono. I know a few times when there are tons of small ones in the water they have hit ahead of my lures and have cut me off. I guess it is going to be trial and error when I am out there

oh i was talking to sandcrab! lol
yeha man down here blues are everywhere all the time and you can be hooked up with like a drum and POP bluefish ran into your line... as far as targeting them... mono usually does fine, bug agian if there are lots of fish in the water, my metal gets a section of wire in front of it.

I usually tie 80 or 100lb mono if it's big blues, and rub my fingers on the leader about every cast.. 50 will work most of the time.. If you're bailin em,ya want sevenstran,jmo...

60-80lb mono and ive never had a bluefish break the 80 i feel wire is not needed for blues either way they arent going to care just get the bait moving and youll get fish
