In going thru my dads possessions I found a conventional reel which was manufactured by the Horrocks-Ibbotson Co. of Utica N.Y. It has a number stamp of 725 on the bottom. It appears to be a lightweight saltwater reel. Since dad hadn't fished in over 40 years it probably was made during that time frame. It's in good condition and everything works. If anyone has knowledge of this reel i'd appreciate knowing. Thanks.:)

I did a quick copy and paste on Yahoo and seen lots of info ..... seems to be a very collectable brand ........ mostly flyfishing but they had lures, rods reels and accessory items ....

From a Google Search: "Horrocks-Ibbotson
Horrocks-Ibbotson Co., Utica, N.Y., made a lot of tackle for a long time, most of it in the low- to mid-priced range. Although a few of their very early automatic fly reels are sought by collectors, their baitcasters have little value."
HOWEVER...it was your Dad's I wouldn't part with it for the world. By all means, keep it, clean it up, and if ya want, mount it to the wall or make some sort of display/plaque, etc. If it was valued at $1000, it wouldn't matter. Keep it proudly and forget about money!

Thanks. Did the same kind of search. Good idea about mounting. Think i'll put it together with his Ted Williams rod.
