The HDX as been out for several months, and I'm sure some of you guys have fished with them most of the summer\fall. I would like some reviews... How do they hold up? I'm not ready to fork over $400 for a custom is the HDX an step up from the OM Cape Point? Thanks in Advance..

Can't compair the HDX to a Cape Point since I dont have the Cape Point but if ya want a Super light rod that will toss 6 & bait on up to 10 and maybe 12 oz *haven't tossed 12 yet* the HDX is Sweet.
I own a custom Inferno and Lami1502 and love them both but if I have to hold one for anytime fishn the HDX is the winner.

Own the CPS. Thrown the HDX.

The HDX is a nice, light blank. Like Shooter said, it throws weight very, very well. The guides and reel seat don't seem like quality parts, IHMO. Dem Red Chinese guides don't stack up to Fuji. I wonder if Nickaway plans to sell the blank by itself??? A custom HDX might be the ticket.

The CPS is a great rod for the money. Fuji Alconite guies and a Fuji plate seat that I love. I find it purdy light, too. Heavier than the HDX, though. It throws 6oz-12oz bettery than any factory rod I've thrown ...expect the HDX. If BPS would build that rod 12'6", it'd be even better. Again, this rod can't be beat for the price.

If you have the extra cash, get the HDX. I'd own one if I didn't already have the RS1569. Both are purdy similar IMHO. I was able to get my RS built for $300 just the way I wanted. I was willing to pay the extra $50 or so just for that reason.

Having said that, my next rod is the Fusion. I like it better than both the 1569 and the HDX. Ain't no comparison.

I have the Cape Point, and I like it. But it's not the easiest to load. But, for the money I love it.. I want another heaver that I can use most of the time. I hear the HDX loads well with 4-8oz's which is what I want. The OM CP needs at least 8oz to really load..

KMW, you want a quality light heaver for cheap just get the OM light.

I dunno how well the HDX will throw 4oz???

By the way, I can bomb 6oz with the CPS. The rod gets 6oz a lot further out than 8oz for me. That goes the same for all my heavers.

So how is this rod compared to the 1502? Lighter? just as easy or easier to load? cast 6'n bait well?

Newsjeff, I'm surprised to hear what u can do with 6 oz and cape point....I can't load it properly with 6 and 8 is perfect.

Had my hands on a Cape Point last night but I put it back on the rack. I honestly think the OM's are the best bang for your buck.
As far as the HDX being a step up from the OM, Not sure what you would consider a step up. The OM has all Fuji guides and reel seat. The HDX has some no name stuff from China.
Again the HDX comes in at 13 and the OM at 12ft.
The guys down in Hatteras I guess put it up against some of the top blanks and it faired really well. Though I didn't see a OM test.

Bottom line, if you're an average caster either rod will be a good choice. The better you get you'll want a better quality rod.
Then again I've seen little old men out cast just about every one on the beach with a tica and a slosh.

I wish there was a list with all the rods on them to compair but there isn't and taking others word for something isn't always the best either because I toss my Inferno and love it and other toss them and say they are to stiff.

The Lami 1502 is a sweet rod and loads and tosses 6 and up to 8 very well but I can't get the distance but I aint selling it because it is such a sweet rod but $$$$$.

True the HDX doesn't have Fugi guides but then again I don't fish braid on my heavers so most run of the mill guides will do, untill I have a problem then they get replaced with Fugi. I bought my set-up with no reel seat on it and had a Fugi reel seat installed where I wanted it so POOF it is on the way of being a Custom.

In case you haven't learned by now ya give to get,,,,

Ocean Master rods are tough and hard to kill and are priced great,,, down side they are heavy and stiff.

HDX- you will not find a lighter heaver anywhere, it will toss weight as far as any rod out there and the price is right, down side it does not have Fugi eye guides.

Every rod on the market has it upsides and down sides, either it's a good rod for a good price or its a great rod for big bucks.
