I had been using 40lb. flouro leader the past 4 months and just switched over to 50lb. regular mono leader. I noticed a big difference in the suppleness and flexibility of it. The 50lb. is much more flexible. I'm thinking it might even be a better choice to use because of that. And I don't believe the length of the leader is that important to that. The most important part is where it enters the baitfish's mouth..that's where all the movement and turning of the baitfish occurs at.

premium mono is definitely more flexible, but the flouro disappears and is more abrasion resistant. I don't understand what you mean about the baitfish, but I actually kind of like a stiff leader because it helps to prevent tangles

Yeap, stiffer stops the trebles from tangling as bad.. imo You can use a lesser lb test flouro, gives you a small di than mono, and is more abrassion resistant than reg mono of a bigger size, the smaller diameter allows you to tie better knots to the runningline,if you don't use a swivel.. At least that is what I have seen so far, when you have to tie it to small running line,(like 6-8 diameter fireline) with bigger fish involved.. jmho

flouro is a waste of money IMHO just use a higher dia. mono....ill outfish anyone with mono while they use flouro and save $10 per spool ;)

I find the stiffness and abrasion resitance to be an advantage for the Flouro. I bought Vanish and did not like it as a line(17 lb test). So I decided to try it on my schoolie setups since I fish bridge pillings with 12 lb test. I figured it could not hurt. I connect the 12lb mono running line to 17 lb Vanish with a noname, about 8-10 feet kinda like a shock leader, but 3/8oz does not need it. No more cut offs on the pilings, now these are 3-6lb fish, I did hit a large under a bridge once and well it was a short hook up I needed to respool afterwards do the 30 yards of tore up line but other than that I have won. I do use flouro leaders(Seagar) in other applications and I am pleased with it. I do use mono in other applications. To me it is know your tools and use them to your advantage.

On a tough bite flouro will outfish mono every time. I don't know how many times my dad has been the only one on the pier using flouro and been the only one to catch a flounder. Same goes with me and spanish.

Pat,

I'm a fan of flouro snelled to the hook; I think it helps increase the bite.
