Political Correctness: a sophisticated and dangerous form of censorship and oppression, imposed upon the citizenry with the ultimate goal of manipulating, brainwashing and destroying our society. PC 101, The Internet...
This is the best definition I have been able to find...
Here's the question.
Do you feel compelled to be "PC"?
If so, why?
Myself, I refuse to conform.
A Jewfish will always be a Jewfish to me, at 5'9", I'll always be short, and being from Georgia, I'll ALWAYS be a Cracker....
So be it.

Agree...
But sometimes it is ok and sometimes it does feel like brain washing....
This thread might get heated...
Some like retard to mental handicap is fine with me but most of PC just takes it too far...
It is almost like "hey I could change this wording to that wording and pretend it bothers me.."
Words are just words. I get offended everyday. I have three working on four children:D and a pregnant wife... trust me I get reason to be offended..
I just don't care what people think anymore.. Not my problem... I learned that you can not make people happy.. they choose to be happy or choose to be miserable..
I just choose to be a confused Dad that is happy.

I MEAN WHAT I SAY AND I SAY WHAT I MEAN.....
That way wen I'm dead and gone, NO ONE can make excuses for what I did or said.
MIND OVER MATTER..........
I don't mind and they don't matter.
ALWAYS SHAKE HANDS AND LOOK EM IN THE EYE.....
A good strong hand shake goes a long way. Can't trust no one who don't look me in the eye.
I would rather someone be straight up and honest and sy what's on their mind instead of blowing smoke up my A$$!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Political Correctness" is a radical and dangerous assault on the truth by the leftists of the world, unfortunately by many of our college professors, and supported by much of the mainstream media. The left-wing finds it relatively easy to indoctrinate those who have little or no knowledge of history and little if any real understanding of today's important issues. Many who know little are easily impressed by a good speaker, whatever he has to say. In short, Political correctness gives bullshit a bad name. PC'ers attempt to denigrate our military at every opportunity, and and for political purposes only, undermine any conservative administration that attempts to address serious problems, like social security or the many facets of national security. I believe that if the pendulum does not soon swing back to rational thought, the result will be our America becoming a radically different country with all of the problems Europe is presently experiencing. We won't be here to see it, but out grandchildren and great grandchildren will. And they will not thank us for having made the change possible.

I've found that some people use the phrase "I'm not PC" as an excuse to be racist, ignorant, and backwards. Stupidity is not something to be proud of.
On the other hand, political correctness is often used to bash people over the head and to use language to warp cultural traditions. For instance, someone recently griped at me when I referred to a gathering as a "Christmas Party." I looked her square in the eye and said, "I'm an atheist/agnostic, and it's Christmas. So MERRY. F---ING. CHRISTMAS...and lighten up."
I approach it like this: use a little common sense and put yourself in the other person's shoes. Always be honest and forthright, but don't use honesty as an excuse to be a jerk. Be a gentleman, but don't let other people's hypersensitivity keep you from being yourself.
RR, on your "jewfish" example. From what I understand, that term wasn't meant as a sleight. I've read that it was because jewfish/goliath groupers produced a white meat that was easy to keep kosher and preferred by Jewish consumers.
Then again, I don't know how I'd feel if someone offered me a Poorwhitetrashfish.

I think we are all on the same page. What everyone describes as PC I subscribe to. It is an indoctrination of sorts. There is being "not being PC" and being "downright rude and mean". It seems like we all agree on this. However don't give me an argument that because someone is "PC" they are nicer or better than someone who is not. Those that say they are probably speaketh with a forked tongue.
There is honesty and brutal honesty. But there can be a happy medium.

Here's what started this...
In 2001 the American Fisheries Society, North America's fish-naming authority, officially renamed the jewfish, (Epinephelus itajara), the goliath grouper. The term "jewfish" is offensive to many and is no longer used in polite speech in some countries. Wikipedia...Internet.
A perfect example of PC run wild.....
Myself, I stick to what I was taught when I was in kindergarten. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Anybody old enough to be my parent gets a sir or ma'am. Say please and thank you. Give everybody a fair chance. Pretty simple.
I refuse to try and keep up with hyphenated Americans, anything "challenged", and the weekly "unacceptable buzzword" vomited up by Hollywood and the media, which are interchangeable at this point.
In Politically Correct terms,
I'm a Technically Educated-Caucasian-Middle Income-Southern Ruralite-American....
Just call me what I am, for God's sake...

My reply to this is plane and simple. Fill more of your spare time with fishing if you have the time to let anybody's words offend you. Words are just syncronized vibrations of the vocal cords, why let it bother you. If its a personal attack I generally laugh it off, and if its an attack on family or friends, chalk it up to ignorance MOST of the time and let it go. Not worth my time and energy most of the time, as I have too many other things to spend it on.

It does my White Trash heart a world of good to see other "right thinking" folks, share my opinion on this subject.
The electronic and print media try desperately to convince Us all, that our traditions and standards are wrong, and that only they possess the TRUTH.
When, in reality, their entire message, is one of dictatorial intolerance, for any culture and values but their own.
I was raised to be a Southern Gentleman, in the proud tradition of the last "Cavalier Society."
I was taught that "actions speak louder than words," but today the darlings of the media, lie and cheat and steal with both hands, and then stand up in front of a camera and parrot whatever mealy mouthed hogwash they think will fool the most people.
Words are random groupings of letters.
They are not "good" or "bad", they are just a means by which we communicate.
When I see an old friend, and say "Why you old Bastard, how've you been" I surely don't mean any disrespect to him, or his mother, and we both understand this.
But if I called a total stranger a Bastard, he might take offense. ( For some reason, this is more likely if He actually is a Bastard. )
So, in these hypothetical instances, the same word can be good or bad.
The word didn't change, only my intent was changed.
We've all been in situations where We had to speak respectfully to someone that We knew was a miserable SOB.
They're just words, groups of letters.
Anyone who gets His panties in a twist over any word that was spoken without malice, is entirely too stupid to worry about.

At my advanced age I just finished with my Masters in Education...You guys need to spend some time in a College Of Education to really appreciate true PC.
Many times I had a class in stiches by telling a Professor half my age that what was being discussed was Bovine Manure. They sure were glad when I graduated.

What Is Political Correctness?
Political Correctness (PC) is the communal tyranny that erupted in the 1980s. It was a spontaneous declaration that particular ideas, expressions and behaviour, which were then legal, should be forbidden by law, and people who transgressed should be punished. (see Newspeak) It started with a few voices but grew in popularity until it became unwritten and written law within the community. With those who were publicly declared as being not politically correct becoming the object of persecution by the mob, if not prosecution by the state.
The Odious Nature Of Political Correctness
To attempt to point out the odious nature of Political Correctness is to restate the crucial importance of plain speaking, freedom of choice and freedom of speech; these are the community's safe-guards against the imposition of tyranny, indeed their absence is tyranny (see "On Liberty", Chapter II, by J.S. Mill). Which is why any such restrictions on expression such as those invoked by the laws of libel, slander and public decency, are grave matters to be decided by common law methodology; not by the dictates of the mob.
The above came from a study. It's one of the symptom's of a declining civilization.
