Well, my dependable old mitsubishi tv i bought in
'91 seems as though it has bit the dust. I went on the web and it looks as though i can't just go buy a tv anymore. HDTV this and DVD that and you must buy all sorts of extra crap to make the product you buy do what it is supposed to do.
My technical knowledge (except for welders) died sometime in the 60's. Any help would be appreciated.

you can still buy a regular tv. TV's made before a certain time have to get a converter box for when all the signals go digital here in a couple years. A regular tv is an SDTV (standard definition tv). HD is the high definition where the picture is amazing...it feels like you are there. But you have to buy the HD channels.

Go look around http://www.avsforum.com/. That crowd knows electronics like this crowd knows surf fishing. I hung out there for a month before making my last purchase.

And don't write off HDTV. Prices are dropping rapidly and some good units are coming onto the market for much better prices.
